The Witness- Thank you so much for another phenomenal episode!!! I really love this episode a lot. And I love Elias and the continued mystery behind his character. There is so much to why he's doing all he's doing to be revealed in later episodes. I absolutely love that we didn't know until the end of this episode knew who Elias really was or even what he looked like. And the huge plot twist that Charlie turned out to be Elias? Wow! I didn't see that coming at all the first time I watched this episode and I absolutely love it!! It's very sad in a way, because I liked Charlie Burton, the school teacher. But now... he's a big time criminal mastermind. Yikes!! I absolutely love the dialogue exchanges between Reese and Elias as well. Their dynamic is really good. And I love their newly developed rivalry, now that Reese is angry upon saving the life a man who will undoubtedly cause many more numbers to come up, and much more trouble for him and Finch. Also... I absolutely love that in this episode, we get a fantastic nod to some of Jim Caviezel's earlier work, from when Jim Caviezel starred years before this show came out, in the movie... The Count of Monte Cristo from 2002 as Edmond Dantes. I absolutely love that they make a point to show the book Charlie had assigned to his students to read, when Reese and Charlie are hiding out in Will's apartment. I especially love seeing Reese smile slightly when the student mentions that Edmond is a badass and a survivor, just like Reese is too. Jim smiles because the boy is talking about a character he once portrayed and loves. Brilliant!! As for the cop with the scar beneath his right eye, along his cheek working for Elias... I really like his character a lot overall too, because there is also a mystery to him we've yet to see. And I didn't expect him to be there at the docks to come pick up his boss when we were led to believe that he was there to kill Charlie, or that he would break into the mobster's home to suddenly kill him for Elias in the end either. I just love seeing him walk off with Elias in the very end too. Poor Reese now feels guilty for letting Elias live and is afraid of how many people's numbers might come up because he did so. The Elias mystery is a big storyline and it's really good, so I'm really excited for more. :) What a great storyline and I love all of the excitement and the twist in the end. Finch, Fusco, and Carter are great like always, but this is definitely an even greater episode for Reese. So good! Thank you again for more Person of Interest!! I'm excited for more! Until next time... Sincerely, Heidi

Great reaction! I couldn't help but smile at your reaction to the twist. You are right this isn't the last we will see of Elias. This is probably one of my fav. episodes. I don't want to give anything away but I will say I have a soft spot for Elias and his right hand man 'Scarface' (the guy who posed as a cop). As for if I caught the twist when it first aired, no I figured it out at about the same point you did.

For me, the most important part to selling the story of Charlie being a teacher was the exchange with his student. I remember thinking there had to be more to Charlie's character because the actor was famous. I remember after seeing him with the student I was convinced he was just a teacher. I then assumed they got a famous actor because so much of the show was just Charlie and Reese so the producers needed an experienced actor who could carry the episode. I was surprised at the end like most everyone else. They really did a fantastic job of selling the story until the reveal at the end.

this was the first episode where i saw a glimpse of what the show could (and would) become. The Elias reveal was amazingly done and the fact that they build towards it in the background since nearly the beginning of the season made it even greater. Jonathan Nolan was tasked by the network to create a procedural (after all the Lost wannabe shows had crashed and burned). But he really wanted to create something much more in the vain of Lost with a overarching storyline and mystery. Thats why POI starts how it starts... to appease the network. But he also immediatly introduced serialized elements and began to subtely shift the focus of the show step by step. And yeah its the same Jonathan Nolan who later created Westworld. So themes around advanced "machines" are kinda his thing. Oh and funny, that you said, that Enrico Colantoni, the Elias actor, "always plays the bad guy". I know him from Veronica Mars (as her Dad and Ex-Policechief) and from Flashpoint (as the leader of a police unit). So I only know him as the "good guy". He holds a special place in my heart because of Veronica Mars. So I was very happy to see him here.

Thank you for the reaction. Trust me no one gets who Elias is until the very end of this episode. You are probably one of the fastest of everyone to pick up on it. Major props. This episode is masterfully done and nothing that Elias (aka Charlie) does this episode indicates that he's anything but a scared high school teacher, up until the end. This is one of the major twists in the first season and I am glad this episode didn't dissapoint. Looking forward to your next reaction.
