Again... You don't know how over the hundreds of years living in the belt how their bodies have changed to adjust to breathing less oxygen. Earthers use more oxygen and Belters use less, this has been established in the show.

One of the brilliant things the writers and show runner do is to project as best they can the agony of what each character is going through but especially Naomi and her BFF Drummer. The repeating message, Naomi's dogged attempts to try to alter the message so that her friends aren't blown up if they try to rescue her (along with her of course!) What she has to come up with to locate the proper wiring to interrupt that message (which as explained in the book, she cannot hear when she goes between the hulls into vacuum) how she keeps track of her oxygen and trips, as her brain is gradually shutting down from dehydration, her misery when she hears Alex's voice say they are going to dock with her. It is all brilliantly portrayed and makes some viewers uncomfortable, or even worse, bored!! I loved this episode, it will stand out as one of my favorites of all time. Dom Tipper deserves every acting award out there for displaying courage for the ages in Naomi defending her friends when all other hope appears lost. Love her and her character!

No problem, any time, and I've seen ep9 and I've got it, but guess what, there will be a few more explanations needed for "Chetzemoka agony" ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ”Œ๐Ÿ”ง๐Ÿ“ก๐Ÿ–ฅ๐Ÿงจ

thx for the explanation!

she was looking for the right circuit box that way, trying one by one, cause didn't know which one is, and due to pressure spec label she knew how much of air takes each out/in and how many times can she do that, and due to that she was counting outs/ins by drawing lines, at least that's how I figured it out, but you are right, too much of "everything" for doing nothing in those particular scenes..

elvis ibrahimovic

I have no doubt that it made technical sense. I'm just no technician. For example: why is she running back and forth in a suit opening similar looking "boxes" in a no oxygen environment for minutes? Its just confusing if the audience doesn't understand what exactly she tries to accomplish.

Guthwulf

things that she was doing in this ep were actually very correct, parts she was using, current over a wire, grounding negative wire, avoiding to open the circuit cause of tamper sensor "alarm", etc., problem is that she was able to move and do this, without getting healed first, maybe she's an android with self healing system built in..

Sadly for me the weakest episode of the whole show. Of course the performances (including Dominique Tipper) are great. But the script for this episode focuses to much on Naomi. I'm still annoyed about her surviving a 60 seconds space flight without a suit and a medical team waiting for her at her target. But even if we accept the plot armor and nonsense about her surviving: The whole time we see Naomi doing "technical" stuff for minutes and minutes without understanding, what exactly she does and how it is supposed to work. This makes the Naomi scenes tedious (and boring) to watch. They should have focused more on the other (way more interesting plot lines). Of course, one weak episode doesn't make the show bad. It's just a bit disappointing, because usually Expanse is much better than this.

That's the idea, yeah. But the injection into her leg wouldn't work in this situation... 40 seconds into her space flight, still being consciousness. The blood needs more than 20 seconds to travel from the leg to the brain and have any effect at all. It's just plot armor...

Guthwulf

You forgot to mention that your article also points out that "Within 15 seconds, deoxygenated blood begins to be delivered to the brain, whereupon unconsciousness results." and that it points out, that the surface water starts to boil within a few seconds (which would render her permanently blind). You also forget that blood needs more than 20 seconds to travel from the injection in her leg to the brain (or eyes) and have any effect at all. She gives herself the injection nearly 40 seconds into her "flight", at a point where she already would be completely unconsciousness and blind. You can see a more realistic depiction in the very same scene with Cyn who looses consciousness 10 seconds in. So no: Naomi's spaceflight is complete Nonsense and just there because of her plot armor.

Guthwulf

Only "small" detail they've missed is the fact that Naomi would need a medical team first to do all this after, and this altered message may just draw more people in.. Marco is not killing impartial Belters, cause actual go in peace suits his agenda, and if the Inners kill them even more, and usually Capt can be Capt as long as following Fleet Cdr's orders, nothing strange about that, but Drummer is the one who quit everything and politics and went to be a pirate for a living. Hitting Pallas would be foolish, not talking about morality, but strategy, Daws probably joined the Free Navy and Ceres is Marco's REAL base, and Delgado is wrong thinking that the Ring space is secure(that MCRN donnager class might turn on UNN)and they are fighting entire Belt, and not realizing that Marco has millions and millions already with him is also wrong assessment

Props to Dominique Tipper for her performance in this episode. It can't be easy to depict that level of agony.

Explanation for Naomi's spacewalk survival - "The big problem a human body faces when exposed to outer space without a proper suit is finding oxygen, and it's the lack of oxygen reaching the brain that triggers unconsciousness. According to Harvard SITN, this occurs within 15 seconds, but a person can survive for between a minute and 90 seconds in this state. Naomi's flight takes less than 60 seconds to complete, so falls well within the safety zone. The shot of hyper-oxygenated blood is probably designed to keep her awake long enough to open the Chetzemoka's door. After Naomi injects herself, blood collects in her eyes, and this too makes sense, as body fluids travel upward in the vacuum of space, which subsequently puts pressure on the eyes (according to NASA)." http://sitn.hms.harvard.edu/flash/2013/space-human-body/ https://www.nasa.gov/hrp/bodyinspace

Will Whiton

It was hyper-oxygenated blood that same sciency thing Holden used on Monica to save her in the cargo container in ep2. It allowed her brain to go without air for a slightly extended period of time, but her body is in a bad shape from the radiation and sunburn
