How we use Design Connecteds "Connecter"

Finally!

The giveaways are explained in the video. I know this may not be extremely comprehensive, but it goes through the way WE use Connecter. Please do me the favor and let me know if there is anything you think is unclear or left out, and I will record a complementary video IMMEDIATELY!

OFF TOPIC: Who will be attending D2 Vienna 2019?

Also here's that code for the PivotToBottom script:

if $ == undefined then (

print "Ingen modell vald" )

else (

 for i in $ do(

  i.pivot = [i.center.x,i.center.y,i.min.z]

 )

)

This video is very valuable . Thank you for this .

Hi. Strange, are you watching on mobile?

Hi, I'm a patreon but for some reason can't access the video. I get this message: Sorry Because of its privacy settings, this video cannot be played here.

I had the same problem but after 4h searching the web i found that solution in a forum : http://forums . cgarchitect.com/35069-want-script-max-toolbar-problem-2 . html Re: Want Script in max toolbar problem go to the maxscript menu and choose open script, find your script and hit open. Once opened select all the code (ctrl + a) and drag it to the toolbar you want your script to be. I would change the generic icon that max assigns to it to text. To do that right click the button and choose "Edit button appearance", select the "Text button" and name it as you want, just make sure you keep it short. Works for me :)

During New Year free time I made Connecter tree - it seems I will save plenty of time using it - thank you very much for this video, also for cool gift !

Sorry for the super late reply. Tags and materials we don't really use in connecter. I bet tagging models would be amazing, for example "blue" or "round" for search optimization. However that would take so much time to do and since a big majority of our model bank is never even used (mostly there to give our clients options), tagging each and every model would be a huge waste of time. Materials we don't use either, we tried to but realized it was just to complicated and found ourselves coming back to 3DsMax's native Material libraries. Just more convenient to have it built into the material editor rather than having it in an external window :)

It's been growing for several years. We started mostly buying model packs like model + model, maxtree etc but gradually we've been buying models one by one. Most often we buy them just because we want them and not necessarily because we need them for anything. The big majority of the models we bought have never been used :P The folder structure is set up from the beginning, but this is the fourth (i think) version of our model bank, so it definitely took some trial & errors before we found out how we wanted it :-)

Connecter has some material library features which is pretty nice with rendered previews and stuff, but I think both adding and using it is way too complicated so we just use the 3Ds max default matlibs instead. More convenient and closer at hand.

https://www.patreon.com/posts/16h-timelapse-24773831What is the music of this video? It feels great

You can find the song in Spotify, ajbo & Tay tay - RI fa. However, the part of the song I used in the video is the only good part of it. :)

Watch till the end of the video ;)

Is it just me or the music was too good that I couldn't stop hearing it inside my head , may I know the name or artist ?

Thanks for the video and for sharing your knowledge! We started to use Connecter at the end of last year, switched from ProjectManager. We still use it for managing materials, I found it easier to use, specially to create previews. We are in a heavy library building process, using Connecter every day, still I found useful info in your video what was new to me. I really like the explanations about your mindset. Over the past years we moved away from creating folder structures, because it lacks the flexibility we wanted. Now all our models are in one folder, textures are completely separated from the models, because most of the time they can be used on any model, since all of our models have realWorldUVs, except if there is some object specific maps on a different UV channel. We are trying to rely on tags and descriptions. Connecter's tagging system is not the best, it lacks some features but it's getting better gradually, hats off for the devs. The problem of moving to a different rendering engine, and update the library for it(with the less amount of pain), is something we still thinking about. Hopefully there is an API for connecter, but I didn't asked yet. What are your experiences about managing material libraries, thumbnails in Connecter?

Sorry guys I'll reply to the rest of the comments here later tonight, just about to get in the car!

Insane model library you got there. See ya at D2!

Thanks Johannes for sharing your knowledge and showing detail features and your workflow. It would have been nice to see (or to hear) how you managed to add so many models to your databank. Did you invest money and time at one point and bought thousands of models or was it growing from time to time? And did you set up the folder structure from the beginning on or did you change it anytime? I think its really hard to define "the perfect" structure (which differs for individual needs of course). Automated previews save a lot of time but what is really important about connecter? For me it is the structured organization of models and materials (thats what you really should think about before starting) and as you said the ability to work like an interior designer to place every single object as you wish.

Thanks Johannes for the video, it was very interesting to see how you use it. Especially the parts about setting up the auto previews. Could you talk a bit about how you use tags & materials in connector? Also a little off topic, could you let me which hyperfocal time lapse HDRI you used in the million dollar views series? Thanks :)

Do you get a file could not be saved-message? Are you saving to a folder using Dropbox or Google drive? I've noticed that sometimes it fails because Dropbox is locking my files when indexing or syncing or for whatever the reason is. Therefore if I know om going to export a lot of models, I usually pause Dropbox from syncing and the save issue is gone.

Good idea for a quick video, thank you. Will do, hopefuööy tomorrow!

Thank johannes this is great help!! , i'm having some problems to re save the files with the script, does anyone have the same problem?

Hi, really great vid loved it and thank you for teh giveaway , can I ask you something ? can you explain how to create a beautiful material for walls ? I saw couple of closeup shots from your work and loved the materials added to your walls . Thank you again <3

I will :D same as last year, see you there :)

Peter bučo

Yeah things have been delayed, but a blessing in disguise that I can attend D2. :D The free beer is on me!

D2, of course! Didn't think you'd be going with the whole moving to the states thing looming :) Thanks for the Connecter video. Been looking forward to seeing how you two use it :)
