Trying to break my hourly rate record pt. 1
Added 2019-03-05 13:22:22 +0000 UTCThis is the first of a couple of videos that I recored creating a sharp project for a new client of ours. As I quickly realized that this client probably isn't going to be a keeper, I figured I could just record it and share the process with you.
What I'm trying to do here is NOT to create the best images I've ever done, but just good enough to be worth the price we're charging. Instead, my goal was to finish this project as absolutely fast as I possibly can.
The production time from empty scene to first complete drafts were just over 6,5 hours, 5,5 of them being recorded. Sadly those images did not get approved because they didn't like my interior design. It was a bold game trying to make this without actually knowing what style they wanted, so I learned ALWAYS to demand inspo images first. If I had done that so I could nail the interior design on the first go, I would've broken my hourly rate record easily.
However I will go through that in the last video, all of which are being uploaded this week (or some in the beginning of next since Vimeo have a limit of how much I can upload in one week). I did not record the re-doing of the interior design, but I'll show you the final images and what hourly rate I eventually ended up with.
NOTE!!! I know the sound is messed up in this video to. I think my mic is broken :-(
NOTE 2!!! I have no idea why Patreon isn't adding thumbnails to the videos anymore. They obviously tried to fix what wasn't broken.

Hi, Thank you, appreciated :) Ah the function is built in, but normally only reachable via right click - object properties - Display as box. however if you go into customize - customize user interface - "toolbars" - tab, and in the dropdown menu search for "toggle box mode" OR "box mode toggle" (not sure which), and you can just drag&drop it up to any toolbar you want it i.

2019-08-11 17:36:51 +0000 UTCHaha anarchy at work! :)
2019-03-13 13:15:46 +0000 UTCHaha it's so awkwart realizing that I've been doing wrong for so long without noticing it :D I guess I said CM but I was thinking in MM. Actually I haven't released any of that since I've just assumed that it's not of interest. My material preset library are just a collection of the most common simple materials like wood, metals, glass etc, which is super simple for anyone to assemble. I could of course share it, but it's linked to copyrighted textures that would go missing.
2019-03-13 13:15:28 +0000 UTCAbsolutely. So I was hoping to finish this project off in 6 hours, but I got interior design changes which took 3 additional hours (not recorded, sadly), summing the project in a total of 9 hours. I managed to sell them one main image and 3 additional images, then I gave them 3 images for free (already had the cameras set up, just needed to render). Main image 2500 euro. Extra images 600 euro/image Total profit: 4300 euro Hourly rate: 477 euro/hour. All hours excluding rendertime, but I always render over night so it doesn't interupt my everday work, hence I don't care counting it or charging for it.
2019-03-13 13:13:06 +0000 UTCThe ground, houses and trees are actually from another hdri (can't remember which, possibly from marmoset) that's just masked out in PS and added on top of the CG-Source one :)
2019-03-13 13:11:04 +0000 UTCReally enjoyed just an interior build vid. Please drop the mic more, it's hilarious
2019-03-12 11:56:14 +0000 UTCI laughed out loud when you finally realized that you were modelling the windows in completely the wrong scale. I was puzzled when you without flinching said "and then these... 50 centimeters, yup that's good" when adding Shell to the window edges. 20 CM thick rungs on the windows etc. Excellent video though, loving to see your actual work flow on real projects (albeit not a super serious / loved customer). Did you release the Material / Scene presets yet somewhere?
