"Life" - Breakdown pt. 2

Sorry for the horrible sound quality, dunno if I broke my mic or something :D

Comments

I rendered a black and white tree animation :-)

You can make one as described in the video. Can make a dedicated video for it if you want, however it's very basic PS/AE skills required :-)

Tree Windy 30fps Where can I find this video? :(

Ah yes, I left that out for one reason only, the scene I had saved was an older version with a shitty curtain material. The material I had in the video was in the scene I sent to backburner but for some reason never saved it locally, tried to recover it from backburner but it had automatically deleted it :-(

Hello! You covered almost everything, but I really would love to see the material of the curtain. At least a screenshot of it :)

Probably because you're on the phone. Vimeo hasn't solved that yet, sorry!

I have saved that link on my desktop, it was some really really good images that I'd love to take on. Anything in particular? :)

It just allows you to have quick presets for the 3DsMax's project manager, so it changes all default folders for file saving, autobackups, image saves etc. http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/projectswitcher Really useful :)

Though I'm trying to leave out the "stupid" part :-) But indeed, when I took the largest step on my skill-ladder was indeed when I realized that I overcomplicated things all the time. :P

I have an out of the topic question which I am curious to know about several videos now, could you please explain what the toolbar with the path is for? Is it for quickly finding your working folder so you can just copy the link and paste it when you save a test render or something simillar cause I've been looking for that. Cheers!

"keep it simple, stupid" is the most important underlying teaching in all your lessons as far as I'm concerned, from visual right through to the technical. looking forward to the next installment.

you may be reading too much into Johannes' comment about the difference between filmic black and photographic black. The client will always know it's a 3d project, the audience may not. In a studio / professional environment it's always important to have client buy-in as soon as possible in order to manage expectations and time. You simply can't afford to work on a project for a week for example only to have the client not agree with the direction, that's why WIPs are crucial.

Can't watch the video JL

Good breakdown. Really would love to see something on the Bulthaup reference I sent you. Getting more into static photorealism again, as opposed to animation etc. Also maybe with a focus more on materiality and the distinct differences between fabrics, ceramics, metals, wood.

Your comment about the Campaign animation, and how the final animation looks better when you haven't seen the before/after really stuck with me. It's why I have the theory of the less you show a client the better, because once a client has seen a gray render, a WIP render, and a couple rounds, by that point their brain is convinced that the image is 3d, and they will never see it as "photoreal." I don't have anything really to add, but that was a great point you brought up. Also really enjoyed seeing the rest of the parts. Looking forward to more content :)

Very juicy tutorial man!!
