🔥 What’s That Burning Smell? Fires in Paralives

Hi, Alex here!

The new gameplay feature we’re showcasing today is a really hot one, in a very literal manner! We’re talking about house fires here and it should bring some drama and danger to your Paras’ lives. Don’t worry though, if you are careful and do not lock a Para between four walls, everyone should end up safe and sound!

When cooking goes very badly, a fire will start.

You have to be careful because fire spreads quite fast if not taken care of…

If this image had sound, you could hear the very loud beeps of this smoke detector!

When near a fire, Parafolks might panic and freeze in place or run away outside.

If a Para remains close to the fire for too long, it will spread on them. It’s a very dangerous situation that Roger is into right now! There’s still hope though.

Parafolks can extinguish objects and other people. Tony is busy in the living room. Maybe he can’t hear Roger in his office because of the EXTREMELY loud fire alarm?

It’s too late for Roger now… 😢 (don’t worry it’s not the first time we use him to showcase deaths and it might not be the last time either!)

I hope you like this sneak peek at fires in Paralives! Thanks to Alejandro, Alice and Chloé who worked pretty hard on the code, character animations and visual effects for fires 🔥

What we could improve or add in the future:

Have a good weekend and stay positive (even when everything is on fire)!

Alex

Comments

Look at y'all over here starting fires, lol

Freya

I do not love how flat the fire looks, even if the image it's itself is really pretty. I don't mind it being like separate pieces of fire. But the flat look, that turns with the camera is a bit weird. Excited for it though

Camille B.

Will there be an option in the options to disable fires?

Takaya

Maybe the option to install sprinklers to help put out fires.

Trinity Smith

Most likely but I also feel like that’s doable? I think unity has automatic collision approximation and they could probably use that map as a base for the particles. 🤷🤷 just my thoughts

boredewil

Judging how all the furniture is scalable, it's probably easier and /or safer to program individual animated flames on each object. Otherwise the fire mechanism would have to calculate the edge of the piece of furniture every time, to determine what lenght/width player has given it this time. Bet it would lead to flames floating in the air unattached to furniture or something :D or would consume computing power immensely.

FinFan 83

“Storybook” certainly but I feel like it stands out and doesn’t fit with the game’s vibe? In my opinion Rn it’s like slapping a cartoon sticker on a realistic painting yk?

boredewil

I see u! I kinda dig it, hehe. Suits the storybook-like aesthetic the game has going on in certain areas. :)

Jelmer

I kinda wish the effect was more particle based and dynamic rather than an animated png in small areas but that might be just me lol great work!!

boredewil

Now the unpaused gameplay videos of Paralives is going to be LIT UP 😉

JossGun Shipper

Tony is precious ! He needs to be saved !

FinFan 83

Very toasty, pun intended lol. Maybe a para who loves fire might bring marshmellows to toast, that could really give some twists to stories lol.

TnT_Terry

This fire has a lovely glow! I do wish there was a bit more distinction for individual licks of flame so that the art style feels like it matches the details house environments better. But I love the spark sprites that fly off!

Amy Joscelyn

What’s a life simulation game without fires 😂

Paige Fletcher

Nothing to add on the fires per se, as this looks good as is imo, but I just need to comment on the wainscoting - it looks soooo good in this pic, well done guys!

dcknx

scars would be so cool!!! And on the topic of fears, it’d be amazing if we could add phobias when creating a para. Since a trauma system is a lot harder to develop I'd imagine, but both could work very well

Victor

Two darker aspects I would think of would be: 1. Scars, I think that would be an interesting customization option, to have Paras be able to recieve scars after surviving those situations. I generally think that that would have to be something one chooses though, at least - knowing my luck - I would end up with unrecognizable Paras otherwhise. 2. Fears, that if a para survived a Fire or something similar, that they evolve a fear of that very thing. So a Para that has been burned or survived several fires has a higher chance of freezing when seeing flames or generally more bad reactions to fire (even contained ones like in a hearth.)

Fenriswolfer

Oh. So, I just fell in love, and apparently his name is Tony.

Mirka Lintula

The fire is so pretyyyy ♥ Do you consider having a fire fighter as a career? Is it possible for Paras to extinguish themselves in a bathtub, shower or a pool? Also I second the idea of needing to buy fire extinguisher in build and without it Paras could not put out the fire themselves and had to wait for firefighters.

Marta Čisáriková

I could see an insane para doing this lol

mamc1234

I think if you have the confident trait and a high fitness level you pick up and save other paras! But if your fitness skill is low they won't be able to pick them up and might fall or get injured trying to do so. That would be kool. Also what about escaping thru windows? Thar something I have yet to see 👀

mamc1234

I wonder if this means there will be the addition of burglars at some point? Understandable if not but that would be great!

mintyKHat

Tony must be a brave fireman, the way he's just standing there with that smirk (or just happily ready to die). Hopefully a firefighter career will be in the future.

Sarah Castro

Oh noes, it's Tony the Surfer-Haired-Guy ! Save him !

FinFan 83

finally fire! muahahahahaha *insert 'mr.burns saying excellent' gif here*

Osby,ossisims

I wonder if it's possible along with the fire extinguisher to include other helpful items like a fire blanket. So, if a para catches on fire and they (for some reason) don't have a fire extinguisher, they could use a fire blanket and roll on the ground. Or if another para was on fire, a para could help save them with it.

pinn770

I think in general it makes sense to have the option to turn fires off. In the Sims, it’s very easy to start a fire, while in real life it’s a very rare occurrence, and it can simply be annoying to some players to have to watch out for fires all the time when they just want your average cozy family gameplay

Maxx

I would love it if fires could reach a stage where they can't be put out without the assistance of a firefighter. That would be a cool gameplay quirk and it would give the player incentive to be proactive in putting out the fire fast themselves or risk the consequence of their para losing their entire home or even their life if they have to wait for a firefighter to help!

Kechi

It could also be helpful for those players who want to have a low-tech playstyle. No cellphone? No problem!

Vera Ohlsen

Ooh I love the idea of a fire safety presentation as a community event. IRL the local fire department has regular "touch a truck" events for kids, which are really cool/fun and also give kids an opportunity to learn about fire safety.

Megan Santucci

Speaking of knowledge of first aid/emergency situations, in real life there are mandatory courses about this in the workplace. So this could a great option for an added ability/skill in the job (the ones that were shown in the live mode video), one that could be useful outside of the job too.

Chiara

Haha yes someone please explain to the Sims that they should flip the circuit breaker!

Megan Santucci

When I was a kid, cell phones were not yet common, so one of the things our parents drilled us on was to go to a neighbor's house and ask for help! Could be a good way to increase the feeling of community in the game!

Megan Santucci

I've just added a comment very similar to yours!

Chiara

Is it weird to say that would be so cute? 🤣 Little para-kids gathering around to study the family safety plan! And they could get nervous buffs ("worried about fire") or confident buffs ("prepared for fire")?

Megan Santucci

That would be a great trait to go with a firefighter career! (Hint to devs! 🤣)

Megan Santucci

Re: Paras being able to carry others out of fires: this should definitely apply to babies/toddlers. Don't just abandon your kid and run for it! 🤣

Megan Santucci

My suggestion: Paras do not own a fire extinguisher "by default" (it does not appear automatically when a fire starts), the player has to "buy" it in build mode. If they don't and a fire happens, the Paras have a more difficulty in turning off the fire, or they can even be totally powerless and just have to wait for the firefighters to arrive (after having reached a safe spot, of course), and they will have more damages. The same goes for the fire alarm, you have to "buy" it first. This gives an element of challenge/difficulty for the player, they have to balance various things with their budget when furnishing a house, and must remember to think of safety! Maybe, to make things easier for the players, they can receive a gentle warning message every now and then, as a tip ("You haven't got a fire extinguisher/fire alarm in your house, are you sure you don't want one?") or even from other visiting Paras, it would be more immersive ("I notice you don't have a fire alarm installed, they can be very useful!"). However, I would be cool if the fire extinguisher is something that "appears" out of nowhere when there's a fire too; but nevertheless I would like it if the Paras were more or less skilled at using it (you have to read/take a course to acquire the ability to use it more and more efficiently).

Chiara

Poor Roger. 🤣

Megan Santucci

STOP DROP AND ROLL! 🤣🤣🤣

Megan Santucci

OR maybe even the possibility of pyromaniacs who START fires?

Miri D

Will there be some fire loving paras that might run TOWARDS fire instead of freeze or run away?

Aquaria

Poor Roger xD It would also be cool if Paras who see the fire first would run around the house to alert the others who might sleep or are just in a different room, unaware ^^

chantal99

Great work, as always. I have fire trauma and I would like to know how much work would go into a turn off option that would allow players that don't want fires to occur in their game to not worry about them. It's certainly not a deal breaker for me at all, but I am genuinely interested in knowing how much time and effort it requieres to add disableing options to a game.

Auntyleti

I've just read karaoke skills and had a laugh 😁 Could be in interesting gameplay option... sing-screaming a burglar away

Thea

How about adding a burglary for the panic animation? It would add to the gameplay, if objects could be stolen, if the house was not secured. And parafolk with karate skills could defend themselves better then others or such.

Dawn Ire

not trying to repeat all the other comments, so just one thing: can pets and children (everyone not adult) die from fire? if so, would you please add the option to turn that off, as seeing this, even in a game, can be pretty traumatic for some. thank you!

Sehrys

Lol that last pic reminds me of the "This is Fine" meme 😂

ZLoves

Another reason to go towards...I mean....stay away from fire. 😉

theo

Especially since we won't have pools for a while...

jrrt1459

I have always wanted fire to be able actually burn an entire house (build mode included) down. It would also be very interesting to see how paras with different vibes / traits react to fire. Perhaps throughout their lives paras can earn a “brave/coward” trait depending on how they react in these panic moments?

Another Plumbob

I don't know if this is possible but like it would be cool if fire was able to burn through certain walls like plaster or wood. Like when building houses a wooden house could be less expensive but a stone house is more fire resistant?

BA

"More panic animations" would be SO great... and useful in other situations. *smiles faintly in anxiety* Actually the firefighters part reminds me that I don't think I know much about planned NPCs. Firefighters, paramedics, postal workers, etc. I'd be interested in an recap of future (and potential) NPC jobs ! I tried looking on the roadmap and didn't find a list. Will Paralives have an insurance system ? It feels like something easy to add to bills. The aftermath of a fire would be very different if you have insurance and if you don't.

ladyteruki

Suggestions: Para save themselves by rolling over unaffected floor to extinguish the fires, and NOT put out fire with fire extinguisher on themselves.

Aa-chan

I love the idea of carrying people in your arms!! Especially since some paras will freeze in place. I also definitely think firefighters are a must!

Bek

Oh and coughing animation. That would be the cherry on top.

Synthia Hubbard

Just reviewed the annimation, maybe it was only the angle, but it kind of looks like they are gripping their chest. 😃 I thought they grab their hips 😅 If the chest, please keep the same! Looks awesome!!

Synthia Hubbard

My only critique is the death animation. It would be more realistic to have the para gripping their chest because they can't breath. That or there neck. (Paras have different chest sizes) 🤔 Just a thought. Soooo excited for release!!! 🤗🤗

Synthia Hubbard

I love it! Excited to see how crazy creators will torture there Paras lol

Synthia Hubbard

Fire seems to be really dangerous and I love it! From story telling purposes, I always wanted a way to quickly put house on fire and this might do it just well. Do you consider adding burn scars? I think they could go well with this. Also, death from smoke inhalation or atleast long term effect such as lowered stamina wouldn't be bad idea.

Wondrous_Mickey

Awesome! I only think that the fire on the character looks weird and the death animation should be more dramatic.

Ricardé

Everything about this game gets me excited for early access. The animations are so beautiful and fluid. I love!!!

SIMplycoya

Hi there, thank you for the feedback! We didn't have the "death by fire animation" just yet, so we replaced it by another one for now! However it is planned to create one very soon. :)

Alice

I mean, the game is still in the early stages. I'm sure the fire will look different later.

theo

Hi Angela, thank you for the feedback! 💕 We didn't have the "death by fire animation" yet, so we replaced it by another one for now! However it is planned to create one very soon. :) -SMACK!

Alice

Definitely will not lock a Para in a room when there's a fire.... definitely won't do that.

theo

Right?! Hahahaha, a bit of chaos is good sometimes!

Alice

I think it's such a grat idea to save other paras who can't move because they panic . Also having a fire extinguisher in an inventory or placed somewhere would be nice instead of the paras pulling it out of nowhere to extinguish it . Also other possibilities to extinguish fire would be awesome like a blanket you can put in the kitchen or sprinklers.... Roger trying every death there is poor para. Thx for the update!💐

Nelly Stein

It would be cool if the paras had to actually run and get the fire extinguisher. I always thought it was weird how in the sims 4 they just pull it out of nowhere?!?

Kayla Bayla

I can see that fire applies an overlay at his base. It would be interesting to attribute behaviours to these points, for example, If It was a surface, it could get cleaned to remove the overlay, but If It was a appliance, It would be dirty and broken, It would need repair skill to fix It. It would be fun If there is a chance that the object was destroyed too, so, after a fire, you could clean and try to salvage what you could.

Panthro Samah

I like how the fire can spread and think it'd be really cool if (eventually) the type of materials or objects in the room could affect how quickly a fire spreads. Like if there are a lot of synthetic materials, knick-knacks, furniture, fabrics, carpet, curtains and so on. A fire alarm is a good addition. Will you also be adding sprinklers? Could be fun if the fire detector isn't placed in a good location and goes off from cooking or steam from the bathroom and then the sprinklers go off... The suggestions in the comments about using a bucket of water (or perhaps even a hose) are also great! I'd appreciate it if paras didn't miraculously pull out a fire extinguisher from their back pocket whenever there's a fire - it should only be used if one is bought and placed in the home or para inventory (if that's a thing). Otherwise a bucket of water, blanket or garden hose could be a good alternative. I doubt you'll be distinguishing between different types of fires, so I'm just gonna assume all fires in Paralives can be extinguished by water or a fire extinguisher. I agree with other comments about the 'stop, drop and roll'-exercise. Teen and ups could even teach it to others or perhaps the firefighters (if they come) would visit schools and even workplaces once a year or something to give a lecture or training exercise - the effect of this on the paras could depend on their personality (might not learn anything, interpret things incorrectly, start fires/become pyromaniac, be skilled at extinguishing fires, become a hero etc.). Oh and if firefighters are implemented in the game, it'd be neat if they could be professionals and/or volunteers, in case of the latter they'd be on-call and have to drop everything whenever there's a fire. In my country, we have emergency response officers (EROs) at workplaces, employees who are trained to be the first line of response in any emergency situation. So if you injure yourself or there's a fire etc. they'll be called and respond and, if necessary, facilitate professional emergency services on site. They're just regular employees who take a course (paid for by employer) and will be scheduled in certain shifts at the workplace for a small monetary bonus every month. It'd be fun if something similar could be in Paralives - like you'd get the offer to become an ERO (and have to take and pass a course to do so) and every now and then there'll be some (invisible) action at their rabbithole workplace that the player is informed about and which can affect the para's mood, wants/needs, transferrable work skills and so on.

Zedef

im not an animator, so idk how hard it would be to do, but it would be cool if the burning was progressive for different types of material (ex: paper burns like paper and at the speed of paper, wooden floor burns like wooden floor, etc...)

Maylina Martin

Our health&safety courses at work shown materials that proved smoke is much more dangerous, it fills all the space available and impars your vision. Usually is irritating/toxic from all the artificial materials in furniture/wall coverings/cushion foams burning. You might not end standing directly in the flames, but you sure will be caught in cloud of smoke.

FinFan 83

It'd be cool if every now and then you'd get a notification that your para had a fire drill (or an actual fire) at their workplace. Possibly even affecting their wants/needs and personality - if they were heroic, they could get a bonus or even a medal from the mayor or something.

Zedef

And the fire is not final

Lucie Baha

He's just really qualified stuntman, so they don't wanna risk other Paras doing death, so they don't have to pay their insurance ;)

FinFan 83

I was wondering if the objects on fire will have breaking down animation, or will they just magically transform into pile of ash ? Also, will saving other Para from fire offer a gain in relationship with other Para who saved them ?

FinFan 83

YES!! Someone with a low handiness skill trying to repair an electronic/save money installing an electronic on their own should allow for a fire to happen maybe hours to days after it's done? I don't know if you'll have pop ups like the sims had, but it can say something like "I guess Rogers repair job didn't go so well" or something like that

Jessica Kane

I Love this omg!!! It will cause so much chaos 😸 I think it would be cool If there's Not only fire fighters but also meds in Case a Para caught fire and needs to be treated after. That would add alot of realism and i think it would also look really cool! I also Like the Idea that later with weather and seasons lightning could Set trees and Houses on fire! Maybe there could be a lightning rod that protects Houses from being Hit but the garden could still be Set on fire? Also an Indoor Automatic auto Sprinkler that puts out fires for richer paras that comes with a hefty bill afterwards? Great Work Guys!

lias

The last picture is like that "This is fine" meme 💀

Maxx

Feedback: death animation should be, para fall straight to the ground instead of 'dramatic' animations for fire death.

Aa-chan

The fire looks weird imo. It looks like an animated fire emoji. Like how on Snapchat you can pin an emoji and make it move with something. I think giving the fire less of a rigid shape would help.

Kylie Miacova

Is Roger just mustache man but with clothes and hair? If so how nice that he finally managed to get some ❤️❤️

Und3rgr0und -

I feep like going to a shower or a bath is a bad idea in case of fire. Perhaps drop and roll would be better

Und3rgr0und -

Yes, that'd be great!

Jessica Tourtellotte

Agreed, stop, drop, and roll animation would be awesome! Or jumping into a fountain, sprinkler, pool or snow.

Jessica Tourtellotte

do you have a vendetta against somebody named Roger? hahaha.

Andrea Digney

You gotta give us a more realistic death then just falling on their knees and dying like they acting but everything else looks good

Darielys Diaz

I would love Paras being able to jump out the window if they have high fitness. But maybe this is the actor in me talking lol 🔥

Leo Cuervo

Maybe they'll be able to do it by part of the floor or roof being missing afterwards if the fire gets big enough

Sophie Goodman-Merel

Just consider him the control variable in death state experiments.

BonaparteBardithion .

First of all, love the last image, gives off "This is fine" vibes. Second, Roger seems more like he is suffocating from the smoke instead of burning, I wonder if this will be changed, or suffocating is a death type as well. And the last frames where his body starts to burn after he falls, omg.

Renikee

I hope Roger is a very paranoid and nervous local townie lol

Sophie Goodman-Merel

At this point, Roger is becoming a meme 😄🪦👻

Zefora

I was not expecting such an update!! This is so exciting! Although I also agree that the fire animations need to be worked on or at least varied. At least when Roger's caught on fire, the fire animations look a bit strange. I read some comments saying how there could be more than one way to finish off a fire, and that could be cool! As well as a second animation of when they get the fire extinguisher. It could be funny and add to the thrill of having them struggle to turn it on, maybe spray themselves by accident because they thought it wasn't working, shaking it... And perhaps as the fire spreads, the flames grow bigger and fuller, and the Parafolks could be trying to cover their mouth and nose and coughing more. If they can leave the house, they could run to a neighbor or a sim walking by to get help. But if not, they could scream to the top of their lungs to get someone's attention in case a Para walks by. Lastly, the idea of being able to carry on other sims (or pets) sounds super cool! Those are some ideas, but I love the way it is already!! Hope you have a great weekend and good work :))).

Lyyo_

It might be tricky with the build system, but would it be possible for there to be structural damage if there's nothing else to burn in the room? Real housefires can sometimes leave one side of the building intact with the other side being burned through to the exterior. Or maybe a smoky discoloration could be applied to walls if the fire isn't put out fast enough especially those next to a blackened installation like a cabinet.

BonaparteBardithion .

Poor Roger !! But maybe, if he has more fire safety knowledge, maybe he can escape by go to shower or bath to extinguish himself from fire. Maybe some suggestions : - more fire safety skills/fitness skill, you can escape from fire by go to shower/bath - with ‘brave’ vibes, para can less the panic of fire and more chance for success to extinguish the fire with fire extinguisher or water - adult paras automatic save younger paras (baby, toddler, children) from the fire building - can extinguish fire with bucket of water Thank you for the hardwork, team

Jason S

I can of like the idea of items sparking while in a broken state even if it's a bit dramatic. It's a good visible cue that this is a fire hazard. Maybe add the option to unplug the item and if it's plugged back in before/during proper repair it could spark again. I'm not too keen on repair jobs always having a chance of fire/electrocution because most real people don't do electrical work with the appliance turned on.

BonaparteBardithion .

that could work, and the ability to do it is dependent on your athletics skill level. either way, if heroic rescue are an option, my paras are gonna be in so much danger lol

Kasia

He shall be saved! We will stop the fire!

Ryan Parr

AWESOME! I love the fire part and I thin what Mia said about "A stop drop and roll animation" would be a cool feature Also about BreakingGaia saying a someone walking by calling for help would be need feature as well. The fire does look kind opaque but this is just the beginning of the game. Even if the fire stayed this way I would stay play the game and like I have said in previous posts. I AM LOVING THIS!!!!!!! Been desperate for a new one and you are all making it happen! Keep up the good work. We are all thrilled and super happy. Thank you.

Ryan Parr

Obrigado por responder Alex, mas creio que me expressei mal. Eu pergunto se as mortes serão mais desafiadoras e não tão bobas e quase impossível de acontecer, igual ao The Sims 4, que tornou o jogo muito infantil / bobo.

Junio Jose

Maybe a Drag action would be slower than a Carry action and has more risk of both Paras catching fire.

BonaparteBardithion .

I live these! I forgot about the cleaning aspect after. Having to clean up and deal with the rubble would be great gameplay.

BreakingGaia

Most people trapped by fire die of smoke inhalation. I think it would be great if they cough and struggle to breathe and get on the floor and sit or cuddle someone or something. If they're actively on fire it should be much more panicked.

BreakingGaia

Oooh maybe a stop drop and roll animation?

Mia

Would be great to have more variations in the fire and less opague. Right now it feels very boxed in and repetitive. What I am imagining is kinda like how puddles melt together when they are in grids next to each other and have a see-throughness so you sense what's underneath it :)

Denise A F Garbov

I love the way the fire looks as it is spreading and love the way he was patting at himself to put it out. The idea that Paras can have different reactions is awesome! I love the fight, flight, or freeze thing. Will that be natural to the para or will players be able to change that? It would be cool if your super hero para gets trapped in a fire and then becomes a freeze para. If a walkby para is outside, I would love for them to call for help, be a hero, or ignore it. They could find themselves in trouble and also need rescuing or a hero. They should definitely react, though. What I would like out of fire gameplay: Fires should be a disruptive event. I'd like emotions, health, mental anguish to take over for a while. Firefighters should have more gameplay. I would absolutely LOVE 💕 it if they did rescue trapped Paras and place them in a fireman's carry. I would love it if even they weren't completely safe from the fire and they could get trapped, too. And I'd love it if they could yell out instructions to Paras to get them to safety - like crawl or touch the door handle before opening. I would really love it if parents rushed to their children or pets. And cuddled them or one another when they're trapped. I would like it if they carried one another out. I'd also like for smoke to make them pass out before dying...give it buffer time to be rescued. I'd also really like to see stop, drop, and roll. We all learn it, but hardly anyone ever sees it. I took a firefighter course once and I saw it in action and I was shocked at how quick a whole body went out. For real. I'd love that represented in a life sim. But I think it should be rare that someone has the wherewithal to actually do it. Maybe, give kids a way to practice it and if they do it enough they will be able to do it when the need arises? And if there is firefighter gameplay, I think that would be a good way to create a firefighter career in the future. Edited to add: One more thing, I think fires should be rare. Most people go their entire lives without ever seeing one in real life. I think cheap/old appliances should have a higher chance of starting fires than anything else and new things should never. Or there should be a way to upgrade your fire safety over time.

BreakingGaia

they said that they will add more panic animations

Haarps

Poor Roger can't catch a break, but at least he seems to have nine lives like a cat -- though I guess he's down to seven now.

Tiffany Stallings

Love the look on the fire! It makes me think of Calcifer!🔥 Also would love if the panic responses were different for different people! I’d love somewhat realistic fight, flight, freeze or fawn reactions for different panicky situations!❤️

Lisa Hedlund

I- don't love it 😬 sorry The fire seems to be 2D. Is this final? Also, the "being burned alive" animation seems too calm as it is. 😕 I hate giving negative feedback, specially to you guys, but that is how I feel, so I hope my comment will be helpful at least. Otherwise, thank you for not shying away from this feature. 😊 Keep up the great work!

Pedro Lima

Love the work! Fire sprinklers could be nice for bigger and/or institutional buildings (We had them in my college apartments). I was also thinking it could be nice if the paras could climb or jump through windows if they’re trapped in a room or something. Maybe I’m getting too detailed with just this feature, but a crawling or crouch-walking animation might be nice too because if there’s a lot of smoke, you want to stay low to the ground so you can breathe better.

Jordan

Awesome!

Ivan

Love these and the fire looks so good! The idea of carrying a Para out of the fire though 😍 would be good for any Paras with hero aspirations too!

ZombieZmaj (Jenni)

Loving it! As for different reactions towards the situation, the game could have ones for the people outside of the fire in relation to the ones still there. Some paras could start crying intensely, some hug each other, some call for the paras inside and some yell for help from passerbys.

Isis Barcelos

Thank you!

Alex Massé

I figured! I do love the chill vibe though!

Danielle Ellis

We're still working on the panic animations!

Alex Massé

I wish there was more panic and urgency. I've noticed this more recently but the paras are always super chill. Which is a vibe. And i do understand this will probably change as things go on.

Danielle Ellis

Poor Roger!!! It is very noble of him to "take one for the team"! I love the fire animation and would LOVE the idea of carrying another Para out of danger. How heroic is that??

Jennifer Huber

Some workplaces can give fire safety and prevention classes, I get them biannually due to working in a hospital environment. So I am somewhat knowledgable in what fire extinguisher to use on what fire, and where to aim, on top of knowing that "closed door" is better than "open door" for avoiding fire spread. If it doesn't bloat the menus too much, maybe a few of the Paralives workplaces offer similar courses as part of their employee training, so that our Paras could learn to either A) lower the risk of fires developing (no, don't put the flammable thing near open flame, please), or B) lower the speed of spreading fire in the home. It could also be cool if a local service had classes for teaching similar stuff - most of it could be done online, or maybe an event happens downtown where the local fire department has set up a small, controlled fire and offer to teach how to use an extinguisher. Could be a once-a-year thing, if you miss it, you miss it. (Plus, it would get more use out of any cool fire engines and firefighter uniforms you guys might design.)

Vera Ohlsen

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions :)

Alex Massé

Love all the ideas! Also, would be great if Parafolk with higher intelligence could do Stop+Drop+Roll principle to extinguish themselves (meanwhile those Parafolk who lack intelligence would follow Roger's fate). It would increase survivability and add realism

Deimante Vilnius

I think the fire animation could be improved. Or at least varied. As is it's just in one shape and it's noticable. Moreso, the death animation could use some touching up. Something more dramatic, perhaps? I just can't think of anyone on the verge of death who would carefully lay down. Let the bodies hit the floor - smack! Also in addition to bad cooking, how about broken appliances? Like if you have a toaster that's a bit sparky, and you're leaving it be. The chance of fire increases And I know we won't get pets for quite some time. But for the future, how about dogs and cats walking up their sleeping Parafolks when a fire occurs

Angela

Death by game bug is not the best way for someone to go out, just to think Roger worked out just to avoid this. RIP roger.

Carelle

Oooo I loveeee the idea of a paraHero ! Maybe add a text alert that says what’s that smell and call everybody to the front to safety is the alarm goes off?

TrePixels

It looks great! Here are some suggestions: 1. May they fire animation have some verities, to make the big fire look a bit more realistic? 2. Ways to start a fire: - open chimney with a carpet which is too close - candles which are too close to fabric - bbq experiments outside (like starting a fire with too much enflamable liquid) - campfire which gets out of controll - repairing broken electric devices (and the skills are poor) Lightning (weather) 3. How to prevent fires: - upgrading the house with a residual-current (-operated) circuit breaker (I hope you know what I mean, had to look for the English word) - ground the house (lightning will be lead in the ground) -Security distance from open fire - using saver materials like stone, granite, etc - installing smoke/fire detector - in areas with a higher risk: sprinkler 4. Effects on the surrounding after fire: - furniture is broken after direct contact - the whole room needs to be cleaned - puddles need to be wiped up - the Paras mention fire in common conversations frequently and lesser after a while. Hmm, I think that's all for now. But please add stuff :) Dear everyone, have a nice weekend.

Liesel Strick

Yes! We plan to do a new death from fire animation!

Alex Massé

That fire looks gnarly! I see you choose the traditional Sims 1 method of spreading fires - straight to big flames on the new tile, no inbetween. Hey, it works! ;) It would be nice if the personality affects which solution to the issue the Parafolk first thinks of in the situation. Would a serious Paraperson first think of leaving the house, or would they perhaps think of calling for help? Questions, questions... Also, if there is no access to a phone in the house (either no phone, or phone blocked by fire), it would be very cool to unlock a social interaction called "Call the fire department!!!!!!" when clicking on any Parafolks not in your household. Yes, it WOULD make sense to ask the neighbours for help! Mary down the street has a phone, go running/screaming in that direction, please!

Vera Ohlsen

There is a "Replace" interaction when clicking on burnt items, replacing them with a new one (for the full price of the item)

Alex Massé

That could be a great addition!

Alex Massé

Hi there! Children won't die in Paralives, just like in other video games

Alex Massé

You could make your pets part of it too, maybe your paras go to retrieve the cat carriers or dog leashes or blankets and carry their animals out in an emergency. In addition to this, you should be able to regularly take your pets to the vet (like a fade to black thing, not a real vet location yet) where they pack up their animals to go if they’re sick or need to be spayed or vaccines etc. you could have different animations for different personalities. One of my cats really hates getting in the carrier and takes longer for example. You could also have para health conditions maybe

Rachel Creaser

Thanks for the suggestion! We will be improving the "die from fire" animation

Alex Massé

Thank you! They can only die from the fire right now. Roger wasn't on fire when he died because of a bug that has now been fixed :)

Alex Massé

Everything looks great, except I think the fire visual effect needs to be worked on more - it looks too repetitive and from what it seems it would face the screen no matter what angle it is viewed at. I suppose this is because it’s a texture but it looks like the same one is just slapped onto every surface on fire. I suggest working a 3D model that adapts its shape to the object it is on for more believable look. In addition I think it would be great to have some Paras autonomously trying to put out the fire - those with low survival knowledge (or something similar - could be a skill) would just freak out; these with higher knowledge would try to use a bucket of water for instance but it would only work if the fire just started or it would help the fire to stop spreading; and with highest knowledge they would of course use a fire extinguisher and use it well, but you can direct any Para to do so but it would take them way longer if the skill is low…

Tauras Giedraitis

That's an amazing idea! And would be so cool! Like low strength means they both go down when they try but high strength they heroically carry them out!

Vorzeros

And maybe an interaction to make a safety plan and practice with the household! This could be good pr campaign for real life

Rachel Creaser

Also if we could watch firefighters come in and save a para

Rachel Creaser

I’d like to see different death animations! If you’re on fire you don’t just calmly lay down to die

Rachel Creaser

Wow, the fire looks great! Another way for fires to start would be from a lightning strike from thunderstorms. It is not very common IRL, but can happen. Maybe some Parafolks could have "unlucky" as a sort of trait and they would attract more random misfortunes lol RIP Roger.

Gio

oooo I love love love the idea of a heroic rescue! maybe a drag animation might be easier to animate over a carry, but a full blown carry animation would make me swoon

Kasia

We will be testing the fire gameplay to see what feels right when characters freeze!

Alex Massé

Haha that would be fun! Right now, fire spreads at the same speed regardless of the object but that could be cool!

Alex Massé

Omg im dying, i hadnt even thought of fires in paralives before. Like all of paralives content has been cute and cozy and then this morning it's like FIRE DEATH AND DOOM! Glad to know that destruction is always an option

aza

Totally support the heroic action of carrying other para to save their life, maybe It can be linked to the gym ability?

Luiza Alves

F Roger, again

Vinicius Fernando

That's so cool to add different reactions for fire. I will love to see different interactions based on personality traits! Nice work 💜

Rafael Sobata

This looks great!! 😃 Love the animations as usual. How do you replace burnt items? Will they need to be deleted and replaced to function again?

Robyn

I love the work you guys are putting in. The animations do look very lifeless. When I watched the showcase the animations were good but they lacked life.

MAXIELL Jamieson

Can’t wait 🔥🔥🔥

Laura Cacique

That look's very nice! What about insurance coverage? It would be nice if you actually would have to pay for it and that there are different coverages (like Fire, Water, Storm ...). In Sims 4 you are automatically insured and I don't think that this makes much sense 😅

Leandros Manos

I think he got used to it lol

Cinderelabaiana

Being on fire is just a regular work day for Roger lolol

Lane Brettschneider

Hi Alex, obrigado pelo post😻🔥🌡️🔥🌡️. Vocês planejam deixar as mortes infantis e facilmente evitáveis ou mais realistas e desafiadoras com alta probabilidade de não se safar

Junio Jose

Wonderful. It would be cool if there was actual cough animation then laying down to die. Since the smoke actually kills you first or at least put you to sleep. Just a thought maybe make the outer parts of the fire more red while inside more yellow. Fires starter can be from a candle, hair dryers, barbecuing in hot summer days or camping. It would be cool to have firefighters and also as a part time job option even if it’s a rabbit hole.

Mia

Seconding the Roger statue, this would be so awesome hahaha

Danny Juforier

Great addition guys keep it up! 🖤

BJ Harris

from what it looks like you can die from the smoke, not just from the fire right? Because that's kind of nice. I also like the look of the fire.

Carelle

I think it's really cool that they can freeze in panic, very realistic! Will that depend on their personality traits? Also how long will the freeze response last and will the players be able to force them to move or will we just have to wait it out?

Melina W

ROGER NOOOO!! hahaha I hope there is a statue or plaque somewhere in town to commemorate all he has sacrificed for the game. That fire spread FAST. There is also a lot of wood nearb. It seems like it would be a lot of work to code (and maybe not possible due to customization options) but do some items catch fire faster than others due to what they are made of? Thank you so much for sharing!!

Lane Brettschneider

I'd love to see adult Parafolks carrying other adults in connection to a high (enough) fitness/lifting skill!

Danny Juforier

The fire animation looks really cool

Typhonn

You bastards!

Aleksandra

Such a great job, team! Love the idea of firefighters (would also love it if our paras could become firefighters themselves and to see them go around town, putting out fires.) As a sidenote, Roger does seem a bit too calm for someone on fire, would love to see a bit more panic there.

AmorFati

Lol those bastards! 😂

Amanda Hotchkiss

I think it would be awesome to see some different panic animations depending on other traits. A stoic or brave person might try to get everyone out or some whose really anxious might even faint. Someone whose pyromaniac or a bit crazy will just stand there and clap in joy.

13Leagues

Being able to carry somebody outside would be fantastic! Tho there should be a reason for this action like the other para is freezing up or unconscious or something 🧐🔥☺️

Schniien

For now, we decided to limit the spread to the lot and a few dozens of objects max so that the player has a chance to extinguish everything but we are still tweaking all this

Alex Massé

I love the fire particles ! Thank you for all the great work done :)

Lucie Vergnon

Really like this addition and excited to see more ways they can be caused. I really like the idea of passers-by trying to help save you or fire fighters carrying you from the building

DoubleC

On top of carrying people, the firefighters and regular civilians should be able to save pets as well

Phoenix C

I love the idea of carrying people in your arms to save them. Especially if you could carry little kids and animals.

Tinsley

We are considering them for later!

Alex Massé

Poor Roger….. also some questions: how big can the fires in Paralives get? Can the fires spread towards other lots (and maybe vegetation) as well?

Julio Saliba

A fire alarm to warn the fire department would be a good idea, as we'll need them after a while, but are you planning to add thieves and policemen in the future?

Lucie Baha

I'd love to see more panic, personally. Very cool tho ^^

Valéntin

Oh my god, they killed Roger!

Patrick W
