Big news: we recruited a new programmer!
Her name is Anna and she is a good friend who has been close to the Paralives project for a while so we're really glad to have her on board! We did some Game Jams together in the past (competitions where you have to create a video game in 48 hours). You can follow Anna on Twitter and she'll also be on the Discord server. She wrote this to introduce herself:
Hi everyone!
First of all, let me say I am really excited to join the Paralives team! I'm a French programmer and I've been living in Montréal for more than two years now. I've been following the updates of the game for a while, so I can't wait to bring my contributions to the project! The most exciting features I'd love to work on as a programmer are the personality system and the world environment, but I am also really interested in participating in the general discussion for all kinds of gameplay ideas!
The first games I played when I was younger were (surprisingly) simulation games, like The Sims 2, Animal Crossing and some old flash web simulation games. I even made my own city building game in junior high on grid paper, where my friends could choose cells to color to have an effect on the imaginary world we would create! I didn't know programming was a thing back then... However the cheatcode console of the Sims definitely made me feel like a hacker!
I am really curious about lots of topics and I love learning. I studied musicology, computer science and bioinformatics in university (I guess that makes me professionally trained to design those complex genetic traits you ask for!). My passion for indie games and game development started growing back when I began university, when I realized it was a perfect way to combine my creative side and my technical skills. I even started learning Blender and did all the 3D assets of the last Game Jam I participated in!
Interview process update
In other news, many interesting candidates applied for the 3 positions we posted: animator ($12k/month goal), programmer ($16.5k goal) and 3D artist ($21k goal). We plan to make a selection next week for the the first interview round. Since Anna was one of our contacts and someone that we know well, we were able to recruit her quickly and fill the $26k goal to recruit a new programmer!

"computer science and bioinformatics" wow, can you please figure out some sort of evolutionary system with personality traits too and not just for looks. so excited. it would be amazing to see certain parafolks to have a slight advantage or disadvantage in skills, occupations or other things in life just because of their genetic makeup. say, if there were many generations of athletes, you would think the descendants would be a little more capable, at least most of the time, when it comes to sports.
