Midnight Pals: Derelictions

Adam Nevill: Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this the tale of the wyrd
Nevill: it's actually not so much a tale now that i think about it
Koontz: is it more of a story?
Nevill: close, dean!
Nevill: a story is another word for a tale
Nevill: but good try

Nevill: this is what i like to call
Nevill: a dereliction
King: ooo! sounds spooky!
King: i like that
King: "dereliction"
King: just rolls off the tongue

Nevill: okay so imagine a story
King: right, right
Nevill: now take away the plot and characters
King: no plot or characters?
Nevill: that' right
King: but that would just leave…?
Nevill: that's right
Nevill: a lot of extended scene description
Lovecraft: i'm loving this more all the time!

Nevill: so imagine that you arrive on the scene
Nevill: where some unspeakable horror happened
Nevill: it's not going on anymore, mind you
Nevill: you're just a Johnny-come-lately
Nevill: and now you've been tasked with figuring out what happened
King: like Columbo?
Nevill: yeah! like Columbo!

Poe: that's interesting, adam
Poe: could you give us an example?
Nevill: ok so imagine
Nevill: what if there was an abandoned ship at sea
Nevill: full of dead bodies of the crew
Nevill: BUT ALSO
Nevill: a strange ancient statue of unknown providence being transported from an exotic locale

Nevill: okay gumshoes, put on your thinking caps
Nevill: and give me your best guesses
Nevill: what do you think happened here?

Nevill: one of these things is not like the others
Nevill: one of these things is cosmically wrong
Nevill: can you figure out which one it is?
Nevill: by the time I've finished my song

Lovecraft: oh that's obvious!
Lovecraft: the statue was clearly an idol to an unspeakable elder god, which drove the crew to madness and murder
King: yeah, i'm with howard on this one
Poe: seems like a safe bet
Koontz: wait
Koontz: what if
Koontz: what if the statue came to life!!
Barker: wait a second guys i think dean's got a banger here

Nevill: that's right, dean
Nevill: maybe the statue DID come to life
Nevill: it's a possibility, innit?
King: yeah, true
Nevill: see, these aren't so easy to solve after all, are they?

Nevill: ok so imagine now
Nevill: a scene of destruction
Nevill: perhaps caused by a gigantic, womanly ass
King: oh my god this is too scary!
