Wicked (2024)

Pt. 1: Vidyard, WeTransfer

Pt. 2: Vidyard, WeTransfer

When you're so emotional at the end of a movie that you get tissue on your face and don't notice for the next twenty minutes you're talking. 👍🏻

*You get plenty of warning at the end before I get into some spoilers but if you skip to 1:43:10 I start talking non-spoilery again.

Alright, I need to talk about this. I absolutely SOBBED at the end of this musical. I mean, full-on, couldn't-catch-my-breath tears! And this is coming from someone who doesn't even like musicals. It's just not my thing. To be honest, I had no idea I was about to watch one – I just clicked the link completely blind! Moreover, I'm not really a fan of the original Wizard of Oz story (I didn't even make the connection with the yellow brick road – that's how out of the loop I was!). But I figured, "Why not? It's Brittany! Her reactions are always worth watching, even if the movie itself isn't for me. I've changed my mind about things thanks to her before, so you never know!" And boy, am I happy I took that chance! I ended up loving, loving, LOVING Wicked! I'm obsessed with the characters! I've already downloaded the songs, added them to my playlist, and I'll definitely be belting them out in the car. But more than anything... it's the ideas and the heart of the story that got me. The dreams, the fears – every single song is an absolute gut-punch. It gave me full-body chills! So, thank you! Thank you for letting me see it through your eyes, and for pushing my boundaries. ...and yeah, I'm going back for a rewatch. Right now!

Now that I’ve watched your reaction AGAIN, and saw your recent post about mental health, I MUST give you joy that I’ve randomly watched a zillion times. 17 seconds of Wicked that didn’t make the movie, but makes me smile EVERY time. Learn how to talk with your eyebrows! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mod8WsHwFiw

1. YES OMG the For Good is killing me!!! 2. YES to deleted scenes! We need to teach everyone how to talk with their eyebrows.

I paused on your Patreon until IwtV S3, but re-joined SOLEY to see your full reaction to this movie. And just like this movie, YOU. Did not. Disappoint. I’ve already *rewatched* your reaction before posting this. I love everything about this movie. And as someone who’s seen Wicked live, I love how on rewatch (when I had my jaw off the floor) I started picking up on music cues in the background (what I initially thought was just slowed down “Dancing Through Life” I now think are combined with notes of “For Good” come in when Galinda and Elphie are dancing in the OzzDust, and again when they’re looking in the mirror together in “Popular” when Galinda tells Elphie she’s beautiful, and again when they’re parting ways at the end). I also think that pink rose Galinda put in Elphie’s hair was the same one Fierro put in Galinda’s hair earlier that night (symbolic much?). I agree with you that the canon love story in the Broadway show is very compelling, but this movie made me ship the girls. Or they can be a trio, I’d be cool with that, too. Really, the two most instantly popular students at Shiz just both really wanna bang Elphie. I agree with you that Elphie in this version is far less awkward than she was in the show. This Ephie almost has too much rizz, and that’s the only thing near a complaint I have about her. I know you avoid trailers and such, but there’s no way you haven’t seen Glinda’s ballgown for Part 2 in all the posters and banners and promo materials out right now. People say it’s part pink in honor or Glinda’s color palette in Part 1, and part blue for the bubble dress of the stage show, but look me in the eye and tell me Glinda’s Part 2 ballgown isn’t A WALKING BI PRIDE FLAG with that pink, purple, and blue swirling together. And it physically covers more of her body/skin than any of her other costumes. Her wearing her bi pride gown and singing “For Good” is going to kill me. Also, yes, until Lestat S3 sings to us, Fiero is the reigning bi king we deserve on our screens. He eye fucks, and is eye fucked by, every character in proximity. That wasn’t a hint of bi vibes, even my little niece picked up on how he “wants to date everyone”. Agreed also that the animal activism comes across harder here, and I think a lot of that had to do with Elphie being raised by a bear for a nannie. OF COURSE when the only person in her “family” who was nice to her was an animal, she’s going to be very protective of them. The activism also hits very hard in the shitty times we’re in. I love love love your reaction, it’s so good to be back on your Patreon, and what you put into your reaction for this was just *everything* I needed someone to see/say. Much love to you. Please drown us in any Wicked content your heart comes up with it, we want all of your rants and thoughts and analysis. You GET this material on a fundamental level that shines through so strongly, and I wish I had 12 solid hours of your thoughts on Wicked.

I saw the notification and said WELL forget my plans, it's another Wicked rewatch day!! I've watched the movie so many times, and your reaction made me cry almost as much as the first time. Every rewatch I notice new things, new music cues (a little bit of For Good plays a couple times and there's even a hint of Thank Goodness to listen for) I would love to see a reaction to the deleted scenes!! As long as the movie was, they cut some AMAZING material!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! I felt all that screaming. I tried to psych myself up and still just, they pulled out the effigy in the opening song and I was gone, didn't even make it through the first song before I started crying lol. What's great is that it was made with so much love and attention to detail that every time you watch it you notice new things. There are so many background characters that are visibly queer (especially once Fiyero enters the picture) it's great. And then this time I was noticing so many of the color choices in the wardrobe and also lighting and scenery. All of the main 3 have their colors, and it's so interesting to watch for when they appear. Like, in "I'm Not That Girl" Elphaba's vest has both pink (Galinda) and blue (Fiyero) stripes, she's WEARING their colors. BOTH of them. The movie obviously upped the gelphie vibes, but it didn't feel like it ever came at the expense of the original canon pairing(s), it felt like a natural addition to them. Which is gonna make the [redacted events of act 2] even MORE messy, it's great. Ack, I know I'm just starting to ramble, it's just so gratifying to watch a movie that rewards such close attention on re-watches rather than being designed as a throwaway summer blockbuster and to see all the little details other people notice and how they're never the same details. (OH! And a fun fact because the horrible pun is delightful, apparently the OT3 ship name is the "Thropple" which is just so beautifully terrible I have to share it lol)

I interpreted Elphaba's tears during her dance with Galinda as being a reaction to Galinda being kind to her (probably the only kindness she has ever received from anyone other than Dulcibear). She also probably thought that she would never have the chance to dance with anyone. Sometimes when you've been on the receiving end of poor treatment for so long a small act of kindness can be really emotional. Looking forward to watching part 2 with you <3
