Lacuna Rambles/Thoughts/Gif Reacts #1: Outlandish Choices! 🍞🤪
Added 2023-08-09 12:30:09 +0000 UTCWhile writing some of the more outlandish choice options in TFS, I'm like this:

[Alternate Text: A GIF of late night television host, Jimmy Fallon, saying "Personally, I'm shocked" with a stunned expression before bringing a hand to his chest for added emphasis. He's expressing disbelief while standing before a blue curtain.]
I'm like that^ despite being the one who came up with the scene in the first place; there are some options that are supposed to make you all pause while reading. I'm not sure if you'll pick them, but they are interesting for, er, variety's sake (?). 😂 A few come to mind from Book One: the MC considering poking Milton while he's unconscious in the plant pod, comparing the spriggan's feeding to how baby birds eat/being fascinated by it 🐦, where the MC uses dark humor to say J didn't murder their grandfather, so they shouldn't apologize for it, etc.
There are more of them sprinkled throughout the first book!
Here is an example of a more outlandish choice that will make more sense to those of you who have met Clyde:
#Be silent. You would rather insert your hands into the toaster than make small talk.
I already teased one about the MC being mean when remarking about R's bleach (for their platinum blond(e) hair) seeping into their brain in a past progress update. I think context is key with these! They can dip into dark humor, entirely unexpected remarks, genre awareness, and anything else I feel like! I would say they are more on the page to earn a laugh, prompt a pause, or make you do a double-take than for you to consistently select them. It's your choice. XD

Oh, that is one choice that always stood out to me, especially due to how the characters can act, possibly try to console, the MC once everyone is out of the office. I love that it is one of your favorites; it can hit differently than all the others--a bit darker and unhinged, possibly alluding to some fissuring beneath the MC saying they are 'fine'. Your 'firey end' comment has caught my attention. 👀 I will say there is a purpose to the manner and method of death along with how it implies that the MC is naturally more cautious (aware!) of flames in the narrative. Not necessarily afraid (although that makes sense), but they can notice them more with a tendency to focus on how wild and devouring they are. Fire makes them stand more sharply at attention; however, they tend to attribute more /intent/ to it as well. 🔥 I love knowing what choices stood out to you! Thank you. 💚🥰

They all burned in the end. Makes one wonder if there may be some kind of firey end awaiting the MC, too. The house fire dream certainly made it seem possible. But yes, that specific response to finding out grandfather was cremated is one of my favourites. A little bit manic, a little bit unhinged, and the reactions of J and the other RO accompanying them, just wonderful.
