The 'known lands' of Valhaadrune. This thing took a long, long while to finally flesh out to this degree. It's basically all of the work I had on the main continent of Felwroth over the last what.. 20 years now.
Hoo, that made me feel old.
The nice thing about this map is that I could work on it while relaxing in the evenings. I certainly don't have every town and city written out, but I do have every main area that's on this map at least summarized. The bits that are left blank have yet to be really figured out (So I just list them as undiscovered for now).
While I know that there are 'purists' out there who I've watched have nervous breakdowns over having 'too many ancestries' near each other, I've always just not given a damn. It's a fantasy world. It has ghosts and dragons prattling around it. Valhaadrune is large enough to host everything from Lorrnathi people, Javarran People, Kettish people, Gnomish people, Elfin Enclaves, Temples to coffin-gods and Humans of every sort from the Midlanders (inspired by some Canadian Native lore, though I haven't added the nameplates yet) to the Coastal and even Southern peoples. It's a melting pot. Lots to discover.
Pantsless societies to see.
Okay, that's mostly the animal folks, and not even all of them are pantsless, but still.
I finally at least have a record of the shape and points of the world. I feel a bit accomplished in that. A lot has faded from my mind when it comes to my writing and worlds, and a lot of the old papers I had on the culture and history that existed here are long gone. Hopefully this step will get me to finally flesh things out a bit.
I need a werewolf people too. I like shifter types.
The mapping also had a surprising effect on helping with the anxiety storm that struck. Therapy through landmasses I guess. It occupied my brain enough to get it to realize I wasn't fighting grizzly bears every day.
One of the next projects is to map out the western isles (Across the Berranstarra sea). I always imagined it as a land of bear-folk, wolf-folk, caribou-folk, and Tribal clans of humans, some of them migratory, with a tie to primal magics. One of the only isles and sets of peoples who were never 'Imperialized' by the Indorai, and never conquered by the Amantir hordes. That is going to take a lot of research to get the cultural inspirations right though.
Onto the next scribble.
May you all have a kobold in your backpack.
