Cleaned up Flat colours

Hoping folks aren't sick of this picture.  I ended up really wanting to do this as an 'illustrative' image which will include linework.. The problem was that the linework I had was impossibly messy and sketchy, so I spent the week cleaning things up and re-colouring parts of the image in prep for doing some shading work and final passes.

My portable tablet is finally giving up the ghost, if slowly.  Its been a great tablet for probably over a decade now (so long that they don't make them anymore!).  Replacing it won't be in the cards for a little while, but I still have the big ol' beast tablet in the studio.  Farewell bitty tablet, you drew many a butterfly.

Going to try and have a few different sketches done.  I realize I've kind of been tossing the same one out there in different iterations.  There will be only one final posting, and that's when it's finished.

Hope you all are having a good week!

Thankya kindly! I'm hoping to get this one done before the end of the month, though I'm distracted by other pictures already.. So many things to get down on the page o.o

It's always a joy when you post things. Definitely not sick of this, or any other. I love your slice of life illustrations.

It is always a pleasure to see your work and watch it progress. My only complaint is that I can't go join them.

Hah! Though admittedly its been a good little tablet. Lasting as long as it has with nearly continuous use as a sketchpad is pretty amazing. I'm likely going to be switching to the little surface tablet for now while I consider options for a future 'sketchpad' :)

S'all good! In this case he appears more since I tend to start with greys that are tinted towards either grey or orange depending on the character (in this case, blue). He's also got a 'multiply' layer put on him to darken him and pull him forward slightly since he'll be sitting in a more shaded area.

Still think it's shaping up great! Definitely not sick of it here. We'll have to give that tablet a proper burial, perhaps involving sledgehammers or truck tires.

Really nice pic but I've got a question. I do not know horses well (read - at all). But why is the one stallion blue? Or am i seeing that wrong?
