This started out as a simple style sheet being done for the various parts of Qiuloa, and what different architecture and clothing might look like from various parts of the island. In Laon Zhan, they have heavy eastern influences due to trade with the continents off the eastern shore. Everything from silks to buildings have that sort of style to them.
