Qiuloan Weaponry

Just a quick rough out of weapons that the people of Qiuloa might use. Largely based on ancient Hawaiian weaponry featuring shark's teeth prominently.

They do indeed! Though it's a little more difficult for them to work than shark's teeth. And since they eat shark on occasion, they use the teeth and some of the cartilage to make the most use of the creature. They occasionally have some rare metal implements too. Usually gifts from travellers/merchants, or those brought in from the eastern continent. Those are mainly used as status symbols, or as practical things (a chef having a fine set of metal knives to cook with means they are regarded as very skilled).

Metal is a fairly rare thing to them. Mainly brought in by traders, or from the Eastern continent. They only have a few mountainous ranges, and being a small island chain means they can't delve too deep into the earth. One of the ranges is volcanic as well, which means it can't really be mined effectively. They also haven't had much reason to get into making advanced weaponry. They have a history that is largely peaceful, and have several more powerful nations that act as a sort of 'guardian' for them. That said, they do have some rare metals as adornments or used as symbols of status. The head priests might have a ceremonial dagger made of copper, or a head-dress of the same material.

Yep! They have a few ranged choices, mainly slings, but have things like harpoons and javelins, as well as a ranged throwing weapon that looks a little like the 'glaive' from Krull, but with bone tips. I'll have those sketches done and for posting in the near future, as well as some of their clothing/war garments that they might wear.

They look nasty but one question. Anything with some range? I mean like a javelin or a bow and arrow?

Is there a lack of metals?

So unusual to think of the warm, sunny, friendly otters of Qiuloa having weapons, but of course they do...not every traveler is friendly. Do they also work with obsidian "teeth," like the Aztecs? (I keep picturing Qiuloa, from your maps, as volcanic (or once-volcanic)...
