Why Do Snake Bites Still Kill People?

Venomous snakes kill nearly 100,000 people a year. Which is weird, because we have a pretty effective treatment for venomous snake bites; it’s actually been around for more than a hundred years. So why are so many people still dying?

Ooh interesting - tell me about the beetles! What's the coolest thing about them?

Quick Idea pitch: Staphylinidae. Because they are one of the largest families of organisms and very few people know about them! Quick Idea pitch 2: How do field biologists work? I recently had the pleasure of using an aspirator to catch staphys for a study and it was such a cool experience! But how do you catch butterflies? How do you attach antennas to whales and fish? How do you figure out which species you caught? How do you study Harpy (I know you have an export on those :D)?
