Working on my current animations has been pretty slow and frustrating given the limitations of my current rig. so i've spent this month working on a brand new one that should work much better and be more modular
the first image is how the rig looks overall. its waaaay less busy than the older one, in the second image. The modular design of the new rig lets me add and remove components as needed. rather than having to use everything at once like the old one. It performs better too
the third pic is a high level overview of the new components. each branch is its own joint. such as the legs, arms, etc. I'm using a newer method of rigging in houdini, which is still in beta lol. however its what will be standard going forward so may as well build this and update it as things go on
I've been doing extensive testing on the rig and it performs pretty smoothly. I expect animations will come much more quickly since I wont have to constantly fight the rig and go back and forth editing it all the time
