If you didn't understand, Serie is also suppressing her own mana, and it's roughly equal to Frieren's mana when Frieren is not suppressing it. Serie is once again being the ultimate tsundere, saying things that don't match her actions at all. The more you pay attention to it, the more blatantly obvious it is. She's actually really easy to understand, which is why Frieren can see right through her. Notice how the test is being held in an area full of flowers, something Flamme loved? Frieren is extremely powerful, but she's somewhat specialized in battling demons. If she had spent those hundreds of years training like a normal mage, she would be even more powerful. Despite this, she is still far more powerful than almost any mage. Serie didn't want to hold a regular third test because she assumed that too many in this group were too weak and would die needless deaths. That's why she conducted the test herself and passed or failed people based on her judgment. Serie is basically a god and can judge at a glance who is truly at that level. The fact of the matter is, this was just a very good year for qualified students.

2024-07-31 19:59:19 +0000 UTCSerie's point about Frieren being relatively unskilled for her age relates to how she spent most of her training focused on mana suppression, and if she had spent the last 1500 or however many years focusing on other skills, she would be even more powerful than she is now. "I still haven't become the mage that Serie wishes I was". "In the end, that boy never saw the fluctuations of my mana either." Serie is suppressing her mana too, and in it's suppressed form, Lernen mistakenly thinks it looks like Frieren's full mana. This means Serie is A MANA BEAST. If Frieren's suppressed mana state is about 10x smaller than her true mana size, imagine how enormous Serie's true mana is if it looks like THAT in it's suppressed state. Fern being able to see Serie's mana fluctuations means she's surpassed even Lernen in ability. Perhaps not in experience, but that will come with time.
