SolutionMaps - Walls & Lighting Foundry Module

Alright folks! First release of the Walls & Lighting Module for my maps for FoundryVTT! I'll start off with a quick TL;DR.

What this is:
This is a Foundry Module that has all current maps and theatre-of-the-mind images created as Scene Templates, with accurate square grid size and positioning, walls (some line-of-sight blocking, others just invisible movement blocking depending on the map), and additional lighting to enhance the maps. Basically this module has been designed to get you and your players into an encounter as quickly as possible!

What this isn't:
This is not a one-click everything included module. This module does not include any maps or images (with the exception of low resolution, blurred background images to act as a visual aid for which map it is), those you will still need to download from Patreon and/or DriveThruRPG to input as background images for the scenes.

Onto the meat of the post!

Installation and "how does it work?"
It's easy and straightforward! In foundry, head to your main page and from the "Add-on Modules" tab you'll want to hit the "Install Module" button.
With that done, at the bottom of the window that appears in the "Manifest URL" box you'll want to paste the above Foundry Manifest Link in there. That will install the module!
With that installed, log into your Foundry World and then using the Settings Gear Icon in the top right, go to "Manage Modules" and then slap a little tick in the box besides "SolutionMaps - Patreon Supporter Cyberpunk & Sci-Fi Scene Module" to enable it.

With the module enabled, now it's just a case of going to the Compendium Tab, finding the scene group you want then dragging and dropping it into your Foundry Scenes tab.
Last but not least, right click on the newly dragged in scenes, go to "Configure" and change the Background Image to the JPG or WebM you desire!
Save, sorted, activate!
Hey presto, a map with walls, lights, grid set up - all you need to do is bring the players, bad guys and toss some math rocks!

Update Schedule & Bugs
The plan for this module is to update it once per month, this will include any fixes to possible bugs, erroneously placed walls, expansions and of course the new maps from the month prior. Ideally if you do find any bugs or issues, it would be more helpful to have them posted on the above Github website rather than here so I can easily track them and quash 'em as they are found!

Final Word
This module took a considerable amount of time to put together due to the fact all the compendiums combined as of initial release, offer over 800 scenes (which includes both maps and theatre-of-the-mind scenes) and it's something I couldn't have done without the support all of you have given me over the near 4 years I've been doing this.

So, thank you and enjoy!

If there's any questions, comments or ideas feel free to ask away as there's an incredibly high chance I've forgotten something!

I'd also like to offer a quick shout out to Cableguy, Gambet, Aurorachyn, Orcskull, Ockraven, Rayvarn and Corn on the Macabre for their help in getting it to this stage!

SolutionMaps - Walls & Lighting Foundry Module

Comments

Sadly not Devious - sorry! There's currently no way of separating multiple tier access, couple that with potentially gigabytes of files in a "one click download" means that the vast majority of people would immediate fill up their hosting providers in a single download. This is why this option was chosen. Having to change backgrounds on the scenes as you need them cuts down the time considerably to just a few clicks, rather than having to wall and light everything on your own.

Solution

Could you make it easy on those who are paying the cost of membership and MAKE it a one stop easy solution where we DON'T have to add each map individually? Maybe start doing individual map packs for each location from this point forward rather than this catchup method? I know I would definitely appreciate it. :)

DeviousHearts

Hi Sol. This is a really cool way to provide Foundry VTT map configuration without needing to also publish every map! Really easy to use too. Thanks.

Ivan Dackiewicz

Thanks for taking the time to map all of this out it saves so much time

Cole Beck

Hey Maia, we managed to get this sorted on Discord but just to answer here in case any others have the same question. This module is purely for Walls and Lighting, the blurred view of the maps are placeholders to make sure you upload the correct map for the corresponding Foundry Scene. You will still need to download the goods from here on Patreon alongside the module. This just cuts down the prep time of adding walls and lights and changes it purely to a "Change the background" affair. Hope that helps!

Solution

Im having an issue - all the maps/scenes have a massive blur over them. Any way to fix this?

Maia Wilson

Thanks so much! That fixed it!

Hey John! Sadly not at the moment. I've done my best to minimise as much of the hard, time-consuming work as possible with regards to setting up Foundry Scenes and adding walls and lights, the last step of linking it all together is down to you, the user regrettably. As far as I'm concerned, there isn't a way (or a module) that will let you mass edit or automatically assign files as background images. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news on that question!

Solution

Hey Zandrea! I'm not overly familiar with the Forge since I personally self-host, but it seems you're trying to upload the whole module as a zip file if I'm reading it right. Instead, there should be a button on the Forge Bazaar, somewhere on the top-left I think, that says "Install from manifest", click that and input the manifest link above into it. That way, it should install everything a-okay. If you have any further issues either hit me up in a DM or message me on Discord and we'll get it sorted!

Solution

Hi, I followed these instructions to upload the module into Forge: https://forums.forge-vtt.com/t/how-to-upload-a-modified-version-of-a-module-system/10510 and I was able to activate the module in my game. However when I open a compendium there is nothing inside, and if I right click and select import all it creates a folder but it's empty. What am I doing wrong? :(

Zandrea Maro

This is awesome! I'm still new to Foundry, followed instructions etc and got it to work. I'm wondering though if theres a way (or where to put) all the Maps I currently have so the Module can automatically detect them and use for the back ground etc without me having to trawl through my folders to find them?

John Mcconnell

You are absolutely correct, how did I miss that massive map!? Added to the to-do list, thanks Pitt!

Solution

Combat District Booster Basement might be missing?

Pitt

This is fantastic, have already started to load these into Foundry for an upcoming session. Great job!!!!

Shawn Michlitsch

Just FYI, I noticed the container city 2 map has no walls, though the container city 1 and full both do, so I'm guessing it just got missed.

Jeff

This is amazing. Can’t wait to try it out.

Zandrea Maro

This is fantastic and I appreciate the immense amount of work that took. You have perfect timing as I am moving all my cyberpunk games to foundry right now! Thank you

Tracy Goodwin

Appreciate it Pitt! It was certainly a process but well worth the effort!

Solution

Glad to hear Jeff! Exactly what it was made for, less time prepping, more time playing!

Solution

Thanks Dustin! Try S0L-DystopianInteriors - Police Detective Office!

Solution

Great release, seems to be missing the dystopian city detective office from a quick glance of what scenes I've used

ManicMeat

Wow this is amazing! I've been slowly doing this myself and making compendia for all these maps, but this will save me a ton of time.

Jeff

Wow. This sounds like it was a MASSIVE effort considering the number of maps in the backlog. Thank you for this. ❤️

Pitt
