Man I feel so bad for brion, he’s really gotten screwed since the show dropped him. That jaffar asshole has been manipulating him and everyone around him since the start of season three. Now he’s left behind and forgotten by everyone, like damn everyone he grew close to in season three just cut him off and left him behind.

Agree about the comics. They're hard to pass up as a Buffy fan, but they also reveal how much the show benefitted from the other writers who didn't contribute/TV land limits.

Hey Mejai. I can see you feel strongly about the Riley situation. I'm not here to measure Johnsons about who's watched Buffy the most, but I'm not a first time watcher.
I wasn't claiming to summarize the entire timeline of Riley and Buffy's relationship, but thanks?
Riley was insecure from the beginning, including his approach to dating and when he found out Buffy's the slayer - long before they traded ILU's.
Again, even if Riley and you are right that Buffy never loved him, Buffy doesn't owe him love at the time that he (or anyone) would like her to love them. Those things don't always happen at the same time.
Whether Buffy was lying to Riley about her feelings is speculation. Whether Spike was right that Buffy didn't love him in that moment could also be a reflection of his own insecurity, rather than the "truth" that Buffy was lying about her feelings. I tend to believe Buffy, who's been pretty self-aware throughout the show, but that's me.
I agree with you that loving someone who likely does not reciprocate can be hard and raise insecurities. Again, Riley was showing his insecurities/emotional underdevelopment from the beginning, before the ILU's, and he really didn't handle them well after the ILU's - probably because, idk, he's really insecure. Just because Riley had an insecure response to something Buffy said/did doesn't make Riley's perception correct.
One thing we know from commentaries and the OG discussion boards is that Riley didn't resonate with audiences, either because of the man-child writing or the actor or both. So the criticisms of his man-childishness were amplified in season 4 with bigger displays of insecurity, competitiveness with Buffy, and emotional instability (waving a gun around while high), and finally get SUCK JOBZ! before being written off.
Chiding Buffy for letting Dracula enthrall her is kinda petty. She snapped right out of it at will, so was she really enthralled? I get her interest in the magical properties of the blood, especially as the slayer.
I don't see the point/benefit/meaning of asserting that Buffy lies about her feelings based on what some guys say about her. Other than maybe you're bummed about how one of your favorite character's arcs ended, which I can understand.

NO! I don't want it to be over! And that ending music gets me every time!!! 😭😭😭
But, the story of Buffy DOES continue! It's a great ending for the show, but the universe does go on! I think you just read an alt-dimension story. Find the Dark Horse comics starting with Season 8. But you might want to finish Angel first, though. The first comic was made into a motion video. Would be awesome if the group watched it together (when the time is right! ).
And, seriously. Everyone who isn't is going to have to start watching Angel again. Can't say why, but trust us, it's time to go back ;)

And Suraj is right, Kennedy is not Tara. Tbh when I first saw the finale back in 2003, I felt bad for Buffy because she ended up the show single (because back then either a character died or found her soulmate by the end of a show). Many shows forced relationships in their last season that weren't that great just so the protagonist didn't end up alone.
However, Buffy's cookie dough speech makes perfect sense to me now (she was only 22!!).
If it was up to me, I'd have not introduced Kennedy (at all) and I'd have ended the show with original trio single + Anya joining the cast of Angel + what the heck, Willow too and let her end up with Fred.

"most of the fandom"?...the Buffyverse comics sold well until 20th Century Fox got the rights back from Dark Horse comics (for whatever reboot they have planned) mainly because of the o.g. Buffy fandom who grew up with the show. Read the letters section of any of the comics and it's full of fans who watched it back in the day showing pics of their kids dressed up like Buffy, Angel, Spike, etc.

That's true. Sometimes you need outside help. If it weren't for willow we wouldn't have gotten Angel back and when Jasmine took over he would of still been angelus and they lose. Tho I would say it's not the first time. They all of a sudden found a spell to fuse in order to defeat Adam. She was struggling against Glory the whole season but beat with the Troll hammer randomly 🤔

#sundayrundown buffy
Can't believe we're finally at the end of buffy. What a ride its been. Thanks for all the great reactions. Buffy is my absolute fav show of all time. I was 12 years old when this first started airing, I watched it all throughout high school with it ending in 2003, the year I graduated. Its always had a big impact on me and my life and I've watched it countless times over the years. Holds up great after all this time. Couple random things to mention:
- Emma Caulfield actually requested Joss to kill her character off which is why we ended up losing Anya. Joss wanted to kill off a main character and have it done quick and brutal during the battle as opposed to Spike and his noble sacrifice so Emma volunteered herself. She knew S7 would be her last (in case the show was renewed) and was fine with her character dying.
- The First technically does still exist (it will always exist) but without its army and minions and with all the new potentials awakened, its plan is very much over. It can't become corporeal anymore since its army was defeated.
- Buffy's cookie analogy can sound a bit funny but i like the message behind it. Essentially she doesnt need to find the "perfect" guy at age 22. She can wait until she grows and develops more in her own life before worrying about that. Great message.
Can't wait to continue Angel S5 now!

#SUNDAYRUNDOWN Buffy So in the end spike was the big damn hero after all, I’m so happy they didn’t go evil spike just because of that kiss instead they went sad boy spike. Man I still feel bad for you, can you imagine your last moments being you realize the woman you love and have done everything for never loved you and never would before you sacrifice yourself to save the world and presumably go to hell cause I mean he did kill a lot of people. #SUNDAYRUNDOWN Joss Whedon wrote a pilot for a Faith Spinoff with Spike joining the show as a ghost but Eliza Dushku chose Tru Calling over the Faith spinoff cause Tim Minear would've run the show and Joss Whedon would've only been a producer. Sunday rundown for Buffy: I personally feel like the Buffy finale emotional beats all work really well but one thing that I don’t love is the way The First is ultimately defeated. How do you guys feel about the fact that an amulet, given to Angel by Wolfram and Hart on a totally different show, that just shows up on Buffy at the beginning of the final episode, is what ultimately is the thing that allows Buffy to win the fight? It just feels very contrived and odd to me. Like if Angel doesn’t agree to run Wolfram and Hart in Angel, that Buffy doesn’t win this fight on her show.

Nobody is excusing Reilys behaviors towards the end. Tho, if you are in a relationship with someone who says they love you but showing otherwise that definitely causes insecurities(not to mention allowing herself to be compelled by Dracula). The right thing was for Reily to leave but he stuck around and that's his fault 100%. But that doesn't excuse Buffy lying to him about loving him when she didn't. After reading your comment I assume you are a first time watcher because he got some things incorrect, Reily brought up those issues before buffy knew about Dawn and before Joyce even got sick. It was just brought up again after those things happened. I don't know where you got speed from, Reilys condition was from the drugs that the government had them on. That happened after he stopped taking them. He was definitely insecure about not being strong enough to be Buffy's boyfriend but it was also PTSD from what the government did to him, why would he trust them again.
All in all we are definitely not going to see eye to eye on this so I'm going to agree to disagree. I enjoy conversing on this, but I believe I got my point across and now just repeating myself. Based of the likes I received, I see others agree or at least respects my opinion. I respect yours aswell. This'll be my last comment on the matter. Have a nice day.

#Buffy Wanna see something funny? Sarah Michelle Gellar did a guest spot on Robot Chicken after Buffy ended. #SundayRundown Young Justice:
So you’ve reached Rescue and Search, my personal favourite episode of Young Justice! To begin my favourite moment of every Young Justice season is always where all the different mysteries and subplots of the season all come together and we get to see how the full story of the season connects. Every season has a moment like this, usually using monologues and flashbacks as everything clicks into place. Season 4 does something different and dedicates an entire episode to that as we get to watch our characters, mainly Dick put together the entire mystery and story info the season over the course of 25 minutes and it is just so satisfying!
As my profile pic indicates my favourite fictional character, and this episode nails why he’s my favourite! From cool fight scenes where he acrobatically leaps around the tower of fate to last longer against Klarion than even his Meta teammates, we see his brilliant detective work, we see his charm and his flirty nature with Zatanna, but most of all we see him as a leader… we see when the situation is at its most serious… they all turn to him.
The main criticism of the Dick arc in season 4 is that Dick as the final arc has to *share* his arc with everyone else as his arc ties things together. But that makes total sense for the Dick/Nightwing arc. Dick’s character arc through the entire series has always been about leadership. He wants to be a leader in season one but is too young before discovering he doesn’t want to lead like Batman. (Rana maybe cover your ears now) In season 2 he’s the leader but he is leading like Batman, he regressed, he struggles with leadership and at the end instantly wants to give leadership back to Kaldur. In season 3 he desperately doesn’t want to be leader and becomes a leader despite not wanting to be. He falls into old habits until Bruce told Dick he commands more respect than he knows, and Conner tells him he is a leader and asks him what kind of leader he wants to be? All of this at the end of season 3.
Then this season we see Kaldur is overworked and burned out. And in Kaldur’s arc Dick tells Kaldur he can step back and take a break, he tells Kaldur he’s ready. So what is Dick’s arc about in season 4. It’s completing his entire series character by becoming the leader and finally leading like himself, leading as Nightwing, not as Batman did. And leading a mission to save Conner, his friend who asked him what kinda leader he wanted to be. Dick finally becomes that leader on the mission to save Conner. Coming full circle, Nightwing becoming the leader on a mission to save Superboy… just like the teams very first ever mission when they saved him from Cadmus.

#Sunday Rundown #Buffy The Ubervamps in the finale don’t seem much stronger than your average vampire, and yet Buffy struggled mightily to kill the very first one. Is it a plot hole? There’s actually a good reason for the difference. All those Ubervamps have been trapped underground for thousands of years with no blood to feed on and that made them weak. But the very first one that Buffy fought was restored to full strength with Jonathan and Spike’s blood. That’s what Buffy figured out, but it’s implied and never explicitly stated. Do you remember in Angel, when Wesley rescued Angel after he had been trapped at the bottom of the sea without any blood for months? Angel is so weak that Wesley gave him some of his blood to restore him to strength. It’s the same thing with the Ubervamps. All vampires get weak when they go a long time without feeding. The brilliance of Buffy’s plan was to take on this army of Ubervamps while they were weak and vulnerable

#Sundayrundown #Buffy Thank you Normies for reacting to my favorite show! I can’t believe it’s over, it feels like just yesterday when we were emotionally blackmailing y’all into watching it.
A few tidbits on the finale -
1. When Giles asks Buffy at the end what caused all this, she answers “Spike”. Spike is the last word she speaks on the show.
2. At the end of the episode we see the “Welcome to Sunnydale” sign fall down into the crater. This was an homage to Spike, who had knocked down the sign twice before with his car in “School Hard and “Lover’s Walk”
3. The very first time we see Spike in the show(“School Hard”) he was in his vampire face. The last time we see him in the show it’s with his human face. This is meant to show his transformation from a monster into a person.
4. Giles mentions at the end that there’s another hellmouth in Cleveland. This was not an end of the show ass pull, as it was mentioned once before in the season three episode “The Wish”. But the Cleveland hellmouth is significantly less powerful than Sunnydale’s (more detail is given in the comics)
5. The actress Ming Qiu is seen as one of the newly activated slayers in the final battle. She had previously portrayed the Chinese slayer that Spike fought and killed during the Boxer Rebellion.
6. Lastly, *cough* uncut Dollhouse reactions Suraj *cough*

#watchnext #TrueBlood #Buffy Would love to see the couch react to True Blood. If you watch The Vampire Diaries, just a heads-up that it's Twilight level quality. And it rips off Buffy almost plot for plot, sometimes nearly word-for-word (there's a Buzzfeed article with a bunch of hilarious examples). Sorry to trigger any TVD fans, but it's true.
It also tries to cover the mediocre writing/acting with a ton of barely relevant mediocre pop songs playing over all the dialogue. Pretty sure it would drive Chris insane. But, it's, like, totally popular, and like, the algorithm's gotta eat, so.

That's unfortunately all I have to say right now because I'm waiting to finish Angel s4 reactions before I watch the final two of Buffy. Not to be a broken record, but I really wish Angel had been double dropped the last few weeks for those of us who like to watch it in the crossover order/order in which you reacted. Saying buffy is the problem is a bit extreme I agree. But all I'm saying is Xander and Reilly were right about how she wasn't completely in the relationship like she claimed she was. I believe it was episode 4 of that season where it all started and was before buffy got super busy with her mom.
Like I said before, if you break it down to bare bones Xander was used as a mouth piece to speak out loud what the writers were trying to portray the whole season. But they dropped the ball heavy by adding the whole Dawn and Joyce illness into the whole thing. Not to mention the Vampire fling Reilly started to have. It's not surprising that alot of people weren't on his side. But I personally always saw what the writers were trying to do.
P.s. rereading your comment looks like we're on the same page more or less I'm still going to post this reply though cause I wrote it lol

That would be a nice idea considering that Anya could have had a nice parallel with Angel. She talks about finding herself after her recent return to being a vengeance demon. What does redemption and atonement look like to Anya? How does she compare and contrast to someone like Angel when she is much older and has done many more horrible things while having a soul and finding comfort in it? Could have been interesting.
At the very least they should have made some magic happen between Anya, Willow, Spike, and Faith. They all struggled with picking up the pieces after doing bad things. Instead all of those character arcs get dropped except for Spike, and even then it was mostly concerned with Buffy. At least Faith had six episodes on Angel to deal with her recovery.

I seriously don't get the way certain sections of the fanbase reacted to s3 and 4, there's so much amazing stuff in both. The way some talk online you'd think that only the first two seasons are worth watching, but I remember when the second season came out there were tons of people saying the show was bad now. Years later it's generally considered to be just as good if not better. Hopefully these last two seasons will get re-examined with time, and hopefully there will be more seasons made eventually.

Riley and Buffy were in different parts of their lives. Buffy didn't need him, but she was EVERYTHING to him. He lost his best friend, his career, his job at the college, his mentor... had to change his whole life, and all he had left was Buffy.
He could tell she didn't feel the same way he felt... and that I totally agree with.
But there was no victory here, and I don't see Buffy as the problem. I don't even think she knew how she truly felt because she'd been so overwhelmed. It just wasn't meant to be.

It's because she felt that her character didn't have much to do by the end of season. The same thing happened with Dawn or Giles but with so many new characters... there was just no time. Well, actually, I'd rather they had spent less time with the First and his plan for Spike.
The Scoobies didn't even have time to talk about Buffy being back or apologize to her for not trusting her decissions.

Here we go with the last arc of this season which is NIGHTWING and this will be the most awesome! Finally thanks to Zatanna he and the others are getting answers to Conner's whereabouts...The phantom zone! Unfortunately Brion is still being controlled like puppet king but one of those Infintors are starting to doubt what they are doing and about that ambassador dick. However Beast Boy is doing well thank to his new emotional support dog and Violet is now getting with Harper. Anyway the others are on their way to the phantom zone but without M'gann. Unless she finds out herself next episode!

The Buffy final, this episode has so many things to like and others things to feel somewhat meh about. From a TV fan perspective, I hate Anya's death . . .it's so quick (blink and you'll miss it) but also from a real war perspective, it's very realistic because most of the time there's no beautiful goodbye or drawn out moment with tears, it's usually just quick, brutal and tragic. Also, as much as I loved the girl power moment and seeing everyone kick ass, it's definitely hard to suspend disbelief seeing the new slayers and the humans (Giles, dawn, Xander) fighting the Uber vampires with such an ease, when Buffy herself almost died just fighting ONE...it makes those few episodes she spent struggling to defeat it seem a bit laughable upon rewatch but with that being said it's still a solid final and it was so great to see it end on a positive note. I'm glad you guys loved the show and it's been fun to see your reactions, now onto angel s5. 🙂👍

#SundayRundown What a great journey with you all watching Buffy, I remember watching this at the time of release & all these years later it's fair to say it has stood up well. Joyce's death, the musical episode, Angelus, Kendra so, so much! If you (Like me) still can't get enough of Miss Calendar check out Prince's music video for 'Gett Off'. At the time of Prince's Diamonds & Pearls album the actress (Robia Lamorte) was one of Prince's dancers (Playing the part of Pearl in these videos). You are welcome!!! ;) Looking forward to BSG reactions, another seminal show I think you will LOVE!

#SUNDAYRUNDOWN The Buffy comics are direct sequels to the tv show and were written by Whedon and many of the o.g. Buffy writers as if the show never stopped. They're considered canon with Buffy and the gang training an international army of slayers to continue the show's general premise of killing the evil supernatural entities that threatens the rest of us as well as a rogue faction of slayers. They have several big bads (even Dracula returns) with each "season" having a story arc just like the show. Rana was referencing a comic that does take place in the same distant future of the Buffyverse timeline ("Fray") which tells the story that at some point in the 21st century, a Slayer (probably Buffy but nobody knows for sure) faces an army of demons. As a result of this battle, all demons and magicks are banished from Earth's dimension. Afterwards, the Slayer line becomes dormant—while Potential Slayers still exist, none are called for two hundred years until Melaka (Fray) is activated. The other comics take place only a few years after the Buffy tv finale with the same cast of characters with some callbacks/cameos from other characters from the show. They also did the same thing with Angel after that show ended. Here's the entire "Buffyverse" reading order; https://comicbookreadingorders.com/other/buffyverse-reading-order/.

I will die on the hill that Reilly was right. The writers messed it up with the whole suck jobs towards the end but Reilly knew buffy didn't love him and it was killing him that she was saying otherwise. Sounds familiar? Buffy had a whole moment with spike in episode 21 but as soon as angel showed up......
Then the end when spike sees through Buffy saying"I love you" and knowing she was lying.
Xanders speech to Buffy that season was dead on. She wasn't fully into the relationship and keeping Reily at arms length while says she's on the same page as him but not.
But at least spike didn't go out and get suck jobs, he just died instead lol

#SundayRundown (Young Justice) aka “Nightwing Fucks *Suraj voice*
Episode 4x22: First off, thanks for the double drop. The Detective Dick! lol. It’s so good that we’re ending off with Nightwing. The use of his detective skills that he picked up from Bruce was so well illustrated in this episode showing how he came to every logical conclusion based off each character involved and tieng the events of Rockets arc together! It’s makes sense why he is the next in line and has even been Batman for a while in some comics.
Episode 4x23: God bless Connor, love em but goddam is he doing too much talking 🤣🤣. It was good to see Brion back and see that he isn’t just ‘evil’ but is conflicted & being manipulated. Beast Boy recovering and being back amongst his friends was also very nice to see. The final 3 episodes are WILD.
PS: Recently Connor/Superboy VA wanted to let fans know that the show is on hiatus but not ‘cancelled’. Mentioned how they’ve been in meetings with WB & the creators are trying to make another season happen. So hoping for the best 🤞🏾. In the meantime, if you guys aren’t aware, the show has comic books. There’s one entitled ‘Young Justice: Targets’ that takes place not long after the finale. Not saying you HAVE to read it, but just wanted to make you aware.

There's a lot that I don't love about the latter half of the last season (The First isn't a great villain, the plot feels like an outline/moving chess pieces around). But I think the final episode and final twist are SO great.
The show rejects its own premise. Since the beginning we've heard, "In every generation there is a chosen one. She alone will stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness.” In the end of the show, the characters look at that premise and say, “But why? That’s dumb.” And then they change it.
Buffy has always been a different kind of Slayer, one who rejects the idea that she should isolate herself from her community, and it’s been a source of her strength that she has friends and allies to bolster her. The finale takes this further and has her share the Slayer powers with all potential slayers.
She looks at a system set up by men that has put an undue burden on a long line of young women, and realizes that while it may have originally made some sense in the context of one small community, the world has changed and it’s time for this system to change with it.
I'm so glad The Normies watched this show - it's been fun re-experiencing it with you!

#SundayRundown (Angel)
I feel like Jasmine brainwashing everyone who looks at her and hears her voice while people who have been exposed to the horrors beyond her honey-sweet words try to end her mind control is a very salient metaphor for current America.
Also loved the touch that Team Angel still remember the happiness from the lie and lament its loss. That social commentary of embracing a happy lie to deal with cold, harsh reality is very poignant. Reminds me of Buffy asking Giles to lie to her after she had to kill her childhood best friend in Buffy 2x7 “Lie to Me”

@Macs After she gets down from the bus, Giles asks what did this, and Buffy replies 'Spike' as her last line. Then the others all start talking about the mall, and what they will do. And Buffy doesn't say anything else. The I love you was before she escaped the school to Spike.

Yeah she wanted to die to ensure that she wouldn’t come back for Season 8. She then found out it was the last season and still wanted to die anyway.
She also has gone on record that she wasn’t the biggest fan of the way she went out. She felt it made Anya seem like an afterthought.

2024-11-07 17:24:41 +0000 UTC
It makes absolutely no sense at all. Whatsoever. It was purely for the emotional wish fulfillment. Whedon has no qualms with making tradeoffs between logical plot sense and emotional payoff for the metaphor. Buffy was about the metaphorical experience of growing up and overcoming the anxieties that plague us.
Buffy unshackling herself from the rigorous demands of being a Slayer and the patriarchal Watcher/Slayer dynamic was much more important catharsis than the threat of the ubervamps.
Still would have preferred some tighter plotting though 😂

I recommend you the new series that started in 2019. It's a nice reboot set in present day and the art is ok. It's only 34 issues and the 1st issue's cover with Buffy holding an iphone is iconic by now.
Also, it established the Buffy Multiverse were everything is canon :)

The whole turn all potentials into Slayers is cool af, ( which btw is not every girl in the world its every potential slayer) lots of fans including myself years ago said it still makes no sense they could 1v1 turok'han the uber vamps seconds after gaining slayer strength, Joss has said yea sure but it was about the emotion and culmination of it rather then geeking out about strength levels it is a really nice conclusion to the story. Over time I've come to agree its a great conclusion.

The comic (Fray) that Rana is talking about is set in the future. The comics that Suraj is talking about are the seasonal continuations of the series. Fray came out during the run of the show. #SundayRundown (Buffy)
And just like that Buffy has come to an end. It’s been a fun ride revisiting Buffy with you all. It’s part of the reason I became a patron.
This episode was a mixed bag for me. I thought the plot was very rushed with the biggest example being how easy it was to beat all of the ubervamps. It cheated quite a bit to get the ending it wanted. Buffy took multiple episodes to defeat one, while now even regular humans can kill them with ease. And there were hundreds of them. It really neutered the threat of the Big Bad. Even Whedon admitted that he got lazy with all that. Just like the Chitauri in Avengers 😂
However, I loved the overall theme with Buffy overcoming the trauma that has been put upon her ever since she became the Slayer. She overcame the patriarchal order that has dictated her life by giving power to all of the potentials. Perfect representation of female empowerment.
And I loved the final touch of the hellmouth and all of Sunnydale being destroyed. Everything that held her back is gone. Buffy ends on an open road in the bright light of day ready to experience the world and all of the possibilities that it has to offer. She can finally become a fully baked cookie.
