Kariya was the villain in the Bount arc, even though it was filler the final fight between Ichigo and Kariya was sick. That King/Horse quote is one of the best quotes in anime 🔥

The "first" Mecha anime is indeed Mazinger Z by one of the most impactful creator in the industry Go Nagai, who created Devilman, which then inspired the work of Berserk, another incredibly influential piece of work. (its also Pewdiepie's profile picture since Tseries, just as important as berserk trust me lol) Mazinger Z and Gurren Lagann is part of the "Super Robot" genre of Mecha where it uses ridiculous and fantastical mechs with mostly shounen-esque confident main characters for its pilots and the emotion is front and center for the stories cuz subtext is for cowards. On the other side of this spectrum is the "real robot" genre which Gundam first popularized where things like logistics, politics and "realism" is taken into account. You've actually reacted to something from the real robot genre, although loosely, is Attack on Titan since it shares many plot beats and points that the only reason it isn't a mecha is people just don't want to admit that they are watching a mecha show or don't know about what exists in the genre.(Even Isayama in an interview has admitted to just ripping off Muv Luv lol) Final thing to say is that Gurren Lagann is a love letter to the super robot genre where everything is taken to extreme like Kamina's macho bravado and the logic behind the Mechs that would expect in these shows. For an all around mecha fan, this series has so many easter eggs and nods on what makes this genre so fun.

It's all just Ichigo and his Hollow, and the cuts to the Vizords against the outer Hollow. The horse/king analogy is there but not 100% sure how wordy it actually was in comparison to the anime.

Just know it's the only time the show uses that style and the rest of the series is much more in line with the first 3 episodes.
