Kryten wasn't supposed to be a permanent addition to the crew at first, just a character in his own story. Grant/Naylor probably (rightly) thought that they were reaching the limit of what you can do with such a small cast and brought back an established character to fill the hole. They switched out the actor though! There's a text crawl at the beginning of Series 3 that 'explains' the events between the end of the previous series and the start of the new one. Josh might have to pause it a few times if he wants to catch it all because it goes so fast but if anything it's just saying "it doesn't really matter".

I remember, Josh, you were always wanting to see more of the ship and I think this episode delivered. There's a luxury hotel on board :D I agree with you - introducing a new character and then not showing them for the rest of series is a little disappointing. I personally would have had the Kryten episode towards the end of this series. But great reaction! Looking forward to your reaction to the next episode :)

There's one thing having an opinion but he's wrote several comments saying the same thing. I'll happily defend people for having a different opinion as long as they're not being an arse about it. His first comment I didn't have much problem with, he made his point about trying to get into the show without succeeding. He then decided to call the show "shite" and then go into another rant about it being the "same jokes over again". I think everyone got his point after the first comment. Then he wrote six other comments basically telling us how shit the show is while saying pretty much the same thing. One of them was him trying to goad people by asking when the 'funny' episode was. Yeah that's reasonable and just "voicing an opinion" in your funny little world. If you can't see that he's gone past merely "having an opinion" then you're someone else I can happily ignore. Bullying? Give me a break. At time of writing this comment he has made seven separate threads bitching about how he doesn't like the show. If you think that's reasonable behaviour then you really need to think. He's so arrogant that on another video he has decided what shows do and don't 'deserve' to be on here so spare me your sanctimony.

Hah! That scene in the hotel lobby is at the Midland Hotel in Manchester, where the crew was staying (until they were kicked out for partying). I used to work there when I first moved to the city. If I'm not mistaken I found a bag of coke in that lobby during a corporate event. Watched this absolute knob of a bloke looking around for it, dragging his mrs around by the arm looking at the floor. Decided to ruin the guy's night. I think looking back I should have just sold it back to him. Anyway, next day I had to work a Jewish wedding at the Hilton, feeling like I had the worst flu I've ever had in my life. That was 2011 - haven't had coke since and wouldn't recommend it! Jewish wedding are absolutely mental and not the place to be on a massive comedown.

Nice one. Now fix that catastrophe that you keep saying is 'going to get better'. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, because it couldn't possibly get worse. I love every actor in it and I'm looking forward to the new Kryton but the writing is turgid and lazy. It makes me want to replace me own memory so far, and I can tolerate Brummie accents.

There's a lot of set up here for future to episodes and stories. How Lister gets with Kochanski is explained down the line. I like that as a storyline because it gives Lister something to live for
