"Don't hit our friends" (and smacks her) 😂 It's a genius episode. Not as funny as some, but well written.

John Morris

I am planning on a movie day once a week and then I will do a poll of shows for you all to vote on.

That is awesome. I will have to check out his commentary sometime =]

Oh wow that is awesome I will have to check out those videos. Thanks for the info bud!

A couple of shows ending soon, has Josh announced the next series replacing them yet?

Daniel Linehan

No showboating overreactions either, you'll find some reaction channels that get up and leave the room twice per video or literally roll around on the floor. Sure, some things Josh finds really funny look like they might kill him, but he always seems genuine.

Z is for Zed

I wonder if she had started work on ‘Worzel Gummidge’ at this point.

Daniel Davies

This is my favourite episode to watch with John Cleese’s commentary on the DVD, because he completely breaks down in laughter at the scene with Polly in bed because of how much she actually looks like Prunella Scales.

Daniel Davies

It's not, there are two more episodes left, 'The Kipper and the Corpse' and 'Basil the Rat', He accidentally skipped the former this week, I think his source gave him the wrong info. So thankfully we have a couple of more weeks of Fawlty Towers left! It is weird though, it feels like he had just begun. EDIT: I was wrong, somehow I totally forgot that Josh already reacted to 'The Kipper and the Corpse', sorry about that.

Ben

What I love about your reactions Josh is the fact that you don't just laugh at the jokes.. if you don't understand something you say, you don't just act like you know... Literally every other reaction channel I've seen are always guilty of never admitting they don't understand a reference.. admitting when you don't get a reference makes the rest of the reaction so genuine.. Never change!

Austin Stratton

Sad that the last episode is next week :( really good episode though, so look forward to it to at least :) you said Sunday will end up being the time slot for getting through the movies on the poll after that?

Danny

We drink the gnats in our coffee here in the UK, Josh. they're a treat!

Hannah

I wonder if Josh recognised the actress Una Stubbs in this episode, who plays Mrs Hudson in Sherlock?

I have the same feeling about how pushy their friends are about seeing her. The only way it seems slightly more believable to me is if they're really much closer to Sybil and really they're her friends and only acquainted with Basil through her. But I agree, even then the interactions feel a bit unnatural. Still an enjoyable episode though.

Although some people love this episode and I'm glad you did too Josh, it's definitely my least favourite episode of all. It's still decent but I just feel it wasn't up to the usual sky high standards of the other 11 episodes and it may be that unlike the others, it took a single note idea (Basil pretending he's forgotten their anniversary and Sybil misunderstanding and storming out) and ran with it for the entire episode with nothing and no one else really populating the episode to give it that chaotic, fast-paced, several mishaps all crashing into one another composition. Sometimes less is more but with Fawlty Towers I always felt that the central conceit was more is more, and indeed furthermore, the very premise was that of us vs. them, the us being Basil and the them being the guests and the staff. Here, the guests don't feature at all, not under the "customer service" umbrella, and although the staff do, it's only really Polly who has any real input. I think, fundamentally, it was an amusing episode, but it lacked the signature dynamism and energy of the other episodes and featured a story that was just a bit too thin and hard to swallow for my tastes. Every ounce of incredulity was squeezed out of it to the point of near tedium. Basil had to lie in the first instance to set the story up so I get that but whilst the characters in all the other episodes pushing his buttons and being demanding and pushy makes sense (as hotel guests can be that way; I should know as I worked in one for 6 years!), I found the uniform pushiness and stubbornness of Basil and Sybil's friends much less believable, and more forced and unnatural. There are some good lines and performances as ever, Roger is a very funny character, but I just feel it's a problematic outing for the show, the only one that I wouldn't call excellent. When you get to A Royal Flush in OFAH I will explain why I feel that episode feels off perhaps for similar but also very different reasons. You do get that and it's fine - not every episode of these top drawer shows can be every bit as good as the next and with both OFAH and FT, their batting average is superb.... I just think there's a recognisable chemistry to both shows and with The Anniversary and (as I will later explain for OFAH) A Royal Flush, the chemistry is off. Just IMHO of course. :-)

The anniversary is one of my favourites although it’s not often on the list of ‘classics’ A bit of trivia some may not be aware of but Roger (Ken Campbell) was the mentor of comedian/ventriloquist Nina Conti (whose Therapy videos on YouTube are gold) and he was also the first choice for the 7th Doctor in Doctor Who. I believe he suggested Sylvester McCoy

Kieran B

And its S2 E5 👍

Darkspyder

I think you have named this one wrong bud it’s “Anniversary”

Mark Parker

Been excited for you to see this episode, just a hu I think you’ve used the previous episodes title
