[Teen Talk] Ep. 14 - Welcome to Earth

The Dad Crew talks through their favorite parts of the new episode, including a discussion about the timeline complexities introduced in this ep, thoughts around playing combat heavy episodes on mic, and what it's like to go back to playing lower level characters again.

Plus, they answer listener questions and talk about the posters they had up in their bedrooms in high school, everyone's favorite film scores and soundtracks, and the positive qualities everyone is happy they inherited from their parents.

Comments

YES the wristcutters soundtrack is fucking amazing.

Rachel Luna

Not sure how you'd run it. But a WWE one-shot would be lit

Malovance

Pornhub new and trending traumatized me because I went on it once and saw my homeroom teacher

Marcus

Oh gods, I'm a "Matt" when it comes to saying gold and not remembering it

Apollo Ripley

Did Freddie pick up a phylactery lmao

Roberto with a Concerto

I don't think anyone laughed at Freddie's jungle joke. But in just in case: "HA!"

Nicolas Heidtbrink

How are they going to bring up film soundtrack AND John Williams and not talk about Star Wars at all? Who cares if it’s the most mainstream answer; most of them are incredible

Brandon Curtis

My brothers and I put a hole in our wall when we were teens and moved our bed in front of it to hide it. Our parents found it 10 years later when they sold our house. 😂

Matthew A Newton

Did not expect Freddy to bring up Nick Cave and Gogol Bordello. Hell yeah.

Mod

I once convinced a guy at the skating rink that I was British. He ended up calling me a few weeks later, and I had no idea who he was, so I answered normally. Then he asked me how my trip to GB was, and I remembered I was supposed to be British and popped right into the accent. He never noticed >_>

Marina Loredo

Not to focus in on the Most Dad piece of advice in this episode, but which USB Car Jumper brand does Freddie recommend?

Michael Garrett Ashby II

I know this isn’t movie related but the soundtrack of NieR and NieR Automata are my absolute favorites, because to me there is a sense of haunting beauty in the destruction of mankind and I think it captures it amazingly As for movie soundtracks, can never go wrong with the OST of Howl’s Moving Castle :3c

Adrien

Tron: Legacy daft punk soundtrack is quite iconic

Ethan Secrettie

so I am THRILLED about y'all mentioning yo yo ma and Ennio Morricone album as it is one of my all time faves and not enough people have listened to it. And I agree with Matt about the LotR music. Will also add that the Pride and Prejudice soundtrack (the 2005 version)

Caz Flip Smith

I love the league reference

Sam simmons

One of my favourite OST's is Baz Luhrmann's Romeo & Juliet

Martin Kidney

Plus superman I think? John Williams is a legend. We went to a Hans Zimmer vs John Williams concert a bit ago and it was amazing. Kinda hilarious because they didn't announce what the music was from beforehand so just me and my husband like WHAT IS THIS OMFG and just guessing in hushed voices 😂

Mel Mel

Delighted to have contributed to “Lincoln is on Nextdoor” social media discourse

Aurie Dear

Is Will watching the Rehearsal? Latest episode cranked things up in ways I wasn't ready for

Sand2Stone

Cannot believe none of them mentioned Pride and Prejudice 2005 smh

Lauren Boersma

Thank goodness Freddie mentioned Twin Peaks

Adah Kinzer

I’ve always loved it since I was young. I used to write with it playing a lot it’s definitely an amazing score.

ExiledDom

I was waiting for someone to say HTTYD! It is such an amazing score!

Alena McPhalen

At World's End is my favorite one lol

O

I vouch for Matt, the At Worlds End soundtrack is so haunting!

O

The greatest sentence in teen talk history is Will's "Around the Scary, a perimeter create"

Angel Rocero

Yo, shout out to John Williams. Created the music for star wars, Indiana Jones, Patton, the 1984 Olympics!

Virgil McClurken

I feel bad that for me it’s Nobuo Uematsu as far as composers go

Sepiriel

I love how seemingly Atrocious all their builds are, Matt saying *Sacred Weapon* his CHANNEL DIVINITY does 1 extra damage (it does not even do that) means his PALADIN'S CHARISMA IS ONLY +1. I am genuinely Delighted by how ineffectual these characters are. Also this means we know all the subclasses except for Normal's, because sacred weapon Is an Oath of Devotion feature.

Maria Conpen

Matt and Will saying their classes don’t do much damage is rough to hear. Will! If you’re reading this, you asked for something to look at in Clerics that does damage: Spiritual Weapon, Spirit Shroud and Spirit Guardians!! Spiritual Weapon isn’t a concentration spell and you can use it to attack using your bonus actions for a while! Spirit Shroud gives extra damage to your attacks so on your turn you can basically do the damage of three attacks in a turn

thiswayjose

My first thought for movie scores was HTTYD and I spent the entire time just waiting for someone to bring it up 😆

Beth

Also, right there with Ghibli is anything by Susumu Hirasawa - Run from Millennium Actress, oh jeez, oh jeez

Ferrin93

Unironically LOVE The Village and would watch Jesse Eisenberg stand on a stump all day long

Ferrin93

TRON 2 soundtrack is worth mentioning.

Ash Smelkinson

Will, you should really look into cleric domains. Idk if you'll recieve/take this advice, but personally I can atest that clerics can be ridiculously fun powerhouses or tricky support characters, but that kind of largely depends on which domain you choose, since that kinda shapes what you have for spells and what not moving forward.

ChromiumEX

Matt should check out his core class feature of smite. Its a pretty spicy 3d8 of damage he could add after confirming the hit to make some nice crit hits. Always maybe all the flavored smite spells like thunderous smite.

Brandon J Allen

will what is your domain

Kieron Lowther

The how to train your dragon soundtrack is amazing and should have gotten the oscar

Angus Muir

My favorite soundtrack comes from the anime made in abyss (and movie dawn of the deep soul) has some of the best music I have ever heard for a tv show and just in general. It goes way harder than it needs

Angus Muir

For Clerics, I think their fun thing really depends on your subclass. Some are really lame, but some like Grave Domain and Trickery Domain are really fun! Also being able to use Divine Intervention is really fun

Nile Crum

Scary and Taylor absolutely have tumblr accounts if the hellsite is still running

Emily Fluty

As far as movie soundtracks go, I wanna give a shout out to Blade Runner 2049’s score. That was some good stuff. What really hit me though, was Gravity’s soundtrack. The music in that movie enhances the intensity so much, it’s crazy! 10/10 would recommend.

Alex

How did no one notice when they’d were talking about the holy water and Freddie said squirt gun 💀💀

Abs0807

Honestly, how was Shrek 1 and 2 not mentioned for soundtracks? Also — check out the Surfs Up soundtrack. Amazing

Jake

I agree they should be used way more though

GillableGuy

Actually, all the avengers do have their own litemotifs and themes

GillableGuy

100% agree on Tarzan. You'll be in my heart is such a brilliant song (in the soundtrack. In the film it's not as good tbh)

Mel Mel

That would be a good way to home brew it! Especially since he is so low level right now. Unless there are plans where undead are relevant.

Ceecee pg

Freddie should take a look at Ranger in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. General consensus is it makes rangers more fun or at the least more useful when not in designated terrain

FusRohNahSon

Matt: can you imagine 'aw I cant wait until next month for the next chapter to see if he gets more porridge' Me who waits multiple months for the next chapter of my favorite fanfics to be posted: 😅

Ceecee pg

Matt as a Paladin: “I don’t do a lot of damage” Matt never using a melee attack with smite

Marcus Hart

The super soaker comment got wholesale ignored and I'm sad cause that was fantastic

Montoya Phipps-Gallegos

I was gonna say wait until you slam a few 2nd level smites on a crit and paladin can do close to 100dmg in one go

Zoe Benza

That show recommendation is on point. Just finished The Bear and I absolutely loved it. My personal fav soundtrack is from The Grand Budapest Hotel. I fall asleep to that movie all the time. Perfect vibes

Gwynn

It's hurting me to hear Matt say he can't do damage as a paladin! Lmao. My dude you can use divine smite AFTER you hit.

Gabriel Graywood

As someone whose not into movie soundtrack or movies like the daddies group. I’d say Tarzan has a great sound track and Phil Collin slays in it, but yea.

Finkleburg

Oh my god! I have been saying for years that the pirates of the Caribbean 3 soundtrack is so good despite it being a mediocre movie.

Phteven

I am STILL upset that goddamn social network got the Oscar for soundtrack over dragon lmao Goddamn stolen!

Mel Mel

Oh my GOD im a former catholic and listening to Matt describe a font as a "wall garden without plants" and a "little pocket" is beautiful perfect A+ 100% correct, it's a little pocket for holy water. Did Matt's family have a holy water hookup? Or was it a dry font? I always wanted a font so bad! We settled for like, one crucifix and some old Palm Sunday palm fronds we folded.

Mary Weber

Wait until Matt finds out about Divine Smite 👀

Diana

Taxi Driver soundtrack!

Kristina Lee

"Who's our jungler" I hear you, Freddie! Who'd have thought you played League though O.o

Phripheoniks

Love that gogol bordello mention. Awesome band

Broden Orr

Not to be That Person especially on this particular podcast, but paladins usually can do hella damage what with all of their smites. I think it’s a matter of getting used to the class you’ll realize paladins are insane powerhouses

Finn Sparger

On the time-speed portal thing, now that Hermie went through, doesn't that change the polarity of the time difference?

Andrea Davidson

Matt!!! THANK YOU for bringing up How To Train Your Dragon!!! Absolutely FAVORITE soundtrack! I didn’t hear Gladiator, Interstellar, Dances With Wolves, or Titanic — ALL great scores, too!! I LOVE this topic!

Evolved Unicorn

I agree with Wills grievance towards "Turn Undead" and it should just be something that affects like Dudlerized or like eldritch maniacs

FusRohNahSon

Paladins get smites for damage

FusRohNahSon

I'm beyond stoked to hear the love for Joe Hisaishi's Hana-bi soundtrack! It's absolutely stunning, maybe my favourite of his works. (And the movie is tremendous as well.)

Paul Cosgrove

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON REPRESENT!!!! SO HYPE! MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SOUNDTRACK AND MOVIE. LOVE YALLLL!!!

Kaiju Waifu and Husband Charms

The Brokeback Mountain soundtrack! Also, The Holiday

Anca

Pics or it didn't happen.

Gmork

I definitely used an old ticket and put it on my car when I drove to college. Only got one more ticket once

Patrick Nan

Is Anthony getting another wax?

Virgil McClurken

Right!

Byron Lewis

Been waiting ALL DAY for this
