Maybe she could join a daytime art class and get help driving there. It could be worth changing your perspective on what your “peers” or friend group look like, too. An art class at a community college might attract young people and potential friends. But a free knitting & social group at the library for mostly retired women could still have cool people for support.

A lot of them have mobility limitations (lots of old ladies), and we love them and appreciate their help, and they get to socialize with staff members in addition to the cats. Even just sitting in the room playing with kitties, or reading to a shy cat too scared to leave their cage, or sitting in the break room making home made cat toys, is genuinely helpful and necessary, and it's fun.
