Capybarrage

Greetings adventurers!

I’ve only heard of this in stories and frankly, I don’t know how much of it to believe, but I’ve been told of an adventurer’s spirit appearing to those that visit the Hadegur hot springs. A furry little beast with a lackadaisical attitude that seems to be seeking someone to do a favor. They say this capybara was an adventurer and is now seeking kindred souls to do the bidding he couldn’t accomplish in life. Normally I dismiss such things as hogwash of drunken locals spending too much time in the suds and heat, but the number of times I’ve been told makes me think that there might be something to this. Anyways, if you happen to see him, tell him I’d love a chance to chat.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

If that strikes your fancy, consider becoming a Patron

Design notes from Matthew:
Yeah, look I know. I know we made a spirit capybara with an arrow cart stuck to his back. I know we made it a high rarity. I know this is probably one of the sillier things we’ve ever created, but look I can’t help it. Fernando and I were spitballing some ideas and for some reason I started thinking about capybaras as I often do. I think they’re probably my favorite little goofy critter so I wanted to see if we could do something themed around one. The pun name leads to the creation of the item as it often does for us.

For the 5E version, I kind of wanted to make this thing artifact rarity from the start. The idea that a spiritual capybaran adventurer grants you a boon and you can call on them in their time of need was hilarious. Really if you take the flavor off of this, it’s a high level multiround fireball with force damage. The idea of making it an extreme “oh shit” button was really what I wanted. It’s perfect for that fight that you know is going poorly and you just need a boost to get over the finish.

For Pathfinder 2E, there wasn’t much need to reinvent the wheel. Pathfinder has a lot of spells in it, much more so than 5E and due to that I figure I should tap into it whenever possible. Arrow Salvo was sitting right there, so just giving the capy the ability to cast that round after round was all that was needed. While technically this is a consumable, it doesn’t act like a standard one so I kept it in line with normal items. Probably the right choice in the end as this thing is just so odd.

Creating silly magic items is kind of what we live for. Sometimes we indulge ourselves and lean into the wackier ideas we have and this was one such case. I know I’m the kind of DM that would absolutely plunk this into my campaign and feel zero shame about it. Also, I know my players would love it. I hope yours will too.

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
