Custom Notes and More! | Patreon Weekly #266
Added 2024-07-08 15:00:08 +0000 UTCHey Patrons, in this weekly I’m going to be sharing the final additions I'm making to the game's journal interfaces!
Custom Notes!
As I mentioned last weekly, I’m finally adding support for player-entered notes in the journal! Since last week, I’ve gone from rough concepts to a complete implantation! Here’s how they work:
Custom notes can be added by pressing the little ‘+’ button at the top right of the adventuring notes UI. You then get to pick between four different types of custom note:
A simple plain text note.
A note that’s associated with a dungeon floor. The game shows a new window that lets you pick which floor number you want.
A note that’s associated with an inventory item (a specific piece of equipment or a type of consumable). The game shows the usual item picker to let you select.
A note that’s associated with a specific type of potion, scroll, or ring. the game shows a custom window to let you pick the specific type you want.
Once you have the exact note type selected, the game will prompt to you write a title for the note, and will then add it to the UI. All of the custom notes for a particular run appear at the top of the notes section, before the regular automatic notes that are separated by dungeon floor. Custom notes that are attached to items also show up in item descriptions when you examine them!

Custom notes have been a long-time player request, and I’m happy to finally address it. You might notice that there’s a limit there in the UI as well. I was originally planning to make custom notes a pure supporter feature, but decided it was better to give them to everyone, with a bigger limit for paid/supporter versions of the game. The limit is 5 for open source, 10 for paid versions of the game, and 3/5/10/20 for the Google Play version of the game, depending on the player’s supporter tier.
A Few other UI Changes
I’ve been very busy with UI improvements this week. In addition to the brand-new functionality of custom notes, I’ve also extended additional journal functionality in a few places:
Badges are now viewable in-game using the journal UI. You can look at badges you’ve earned this run, or badges overall.

The alchemy guide can now be directly viewed in the alchemy scene if you’re playing on a large enough screen!

And lastly, the ‘badges’ button in the main UI has been replaced with a ‘journal’ button, that lets you view badges, catalogs, and guidebooks from the main menu!

With all of these additions I’ve just about wrapped up all of the UI adjustments I want to add in v2.5.0, which means it’s time to focus on some game content! I expect v2.5.0 to be very lightweight in this regard, but there’ll still be some things to show off over the next couple weeks.
Comments
This is a very helpful new feature. Thank you for continuing to make an already impressive game, even better.
