v0.9.4 Alchemy Improvements | Patreon Poll #17

Hey Patrons!

After I finish up talents, making improvements to the game’s alchemy system is a high priority. I want to reposition alchemical energy, make a bunch of balance changes to individual recipes, and add a few new ones. However, with the iOS release coming soon it’s starting to look like v0.9.4 is a bad time for such major alchemy changes.

I still want to make some alchemy improvements in v0.9.4 though! So, for this poll I’m offering you guys some choices on what alchemy recipes I should make some targeted improvements to in v0.9.4! Note that none of these involve alchemical energy, I’m saving changes to those for when I improve the energy system as well.

The results from this poll will influence what alchemy items I focus on as a part of v0.9.4!

Please vote for all the options that you like, not just for your one favourite! I allow multiple votes as it means that a higher proportion of people will end up voting for the winning choice. It also lets me gauge interest and lets polls be a bit more flexible, I might choose to implement the top 2 choices in some polls for example.

Runestones

I’ve generally wanted runestones to be more powerful and rare than seeds, but because some of them are made 3 at a time that isn’t quite the case atm. I might try to standardize stones at 2 per scroll, and buff many of them accordingly. This would make them a bit more distinct from seeds and make them more exciting as floor loot.

Some changes might be giving intuition stones a chance to be preserved on a correct guess, changing deepened sleep stones to just inflict magical sleep, and giving flock stones multiple uses.

Exotic Potions

I feel that exotic potions are in a decent spot as a category, but there are some specific ones which could do with adjustments. Mainly some effects are a bit too specific, and so I might like to look into making them more generally usable.

Some changes might be buffs to potions of adrenaline surge, holy furor, or shrouding fog.

Exotic Scrolls

Exotic scrolls have similar issues to potions, but there are more scrolls that need adjustments. In particular some of the scroll effects are very phoned in, and so I might like to make them a bit more interesting.

Some of those phoned in effects I might like to overhaul are scrolls of affection, petrification, and confusion. I might also like to merge the functionalities of scrolls of passage and beacon of returning.

Tipped Darts

Tipped darts already got a big improvement when I made them tippable from outside of the alchemy interface, but several darts still have underwhelming effects. Like with potions I think changes here would mostly be focused on rebalancing/extending existing mechanics, and not so much overhauling functionality.

Some changes might be letting sleeping darts give guaranteed sleep for several turns, making displacing darts more predictable, and (yes finally) rebalancing rot darts.

Comments

Currently runestones are only used in exotic scroll and catalyst recipes. I don't think this will hurt those applications too much, but I do plan to make changes there when I made more extensive alchemy changes anyway.

I'd just like to ask that if you reduce the availability of runestones by providing 2 instead of 3 for some breakdowns that you also either reduce consumption somehow or find a way to provide another source of the material for alchemy. Maybe a worn scroll that produces "depleted runestones" or give runestones a chance to remain in a depleted state (but still useful as ingredients) like 1 in n times after use. That would keep alchemy recipes that call for runestones as accessible as they are now while reducing the number of useable stones you get from breaking down scrolls. Now that I've typed it I rather like the idea of runestones depleting, but still having a use as ingredients. That sounds fun.

I'm always going to support exotic potion overhauls. Adrenaline-inducing exotic potion here we come!!! Honestly I support overhauls of every single thing here, but I'm only voting for this and tipped dart reworks. Tipped darts are the most in need of a serious rework; the vast majority of them are useless. To boot, Adrenaline darts are a slap in the face, the fact that the power is so close yet so far is enraging. The fact that Adrenaline darts suck makes it even worse. The most problematic darts imo are these: * Adrenaline Darts * Healing darts * Holy darts (seriously, just bless?) * rot darts for obvious reasons * displacing darts * sleep darts (for everyone that isn't snapshot sniper or a really skilled ring of furor user) I could go on but then I worry I'll just list every dart except blinding dart...

I think everything listed could use some rework but voted for tipped darts since I always pass on them. Also like the idea of runestones being changed.
