Music d20 Presents: More Tabletop Composers!
Added 2021-10-12 12:03:02 +0000 UTCHey y'all! Long time no chat. In case you missed my previous message, Music d20 is going dormant! You aren't being charged for this month, and going forward I will be releasing content at a much slower pace. Go read that linked post if you have no idea what I'm talking about.
That said, while I still have your attention, I'd love to introduce you to some of my wonderful peers that you may not have discovered yet! The tabletop music scene is THRIVING, and even if you don't want to go support me over at Borough Bound, there are still plenty of other TTRPG musicians you should be checking out. I'm going to be highlighting some of their work this month. Here's the first batch! I asked them to write their own bios, so some of them are in third person and some in first. Woops! Anyway, links to their tracks are at the bottom of this post!
ASKII
ASKII is a media composer from Dresden, Germany. Initially coming from an Electronic Music background, he has been creating Orchestral and Ambient Fantasy Music since 2017. His tracks are based on immersion and storytelling, making it suitable for background music in Pen & Paper gaming sessions. His music is available for free streaming on several platforms, including YouTube, Bandcamp, SoundCloud and Spotify. Additionally, you can use all music in your public (non-commercial) TTRPG podcasts and streams!
Some of his albums are wrapped in high quality 3D animation videos, crafted with lots of love to detail. Make sure to check out one of his recent creations “Hegelburg at Night” on YouTube.
Releasing one album at a time, projects often take several months due to the amount of work. On Patreon though he shares regular updates and insights into the journey of each production, as well as bonus material like screenshots, maps, sheet music and the compositions itself, depending on your Tier even before the official album release.
The attached track he is sharing with you is from one of his recent albums “Hegelburg at Night”. [Note from Will: For those of you who enjoy my ambient pieces, this is truly ASKII's forte. "City at Rest" exemplifies his slow, moody, Skyrim-esque soundscapes. It's the perfect mood to get lost in while wandering the city streets in your favorite campaigns.]

Tabletop RPG Music
Hi folks, I’m Ian, I write atmospheric music for TRRPGs. I tend towards writing music with lots of mood and feel whose job is to set the atmosphere at the table without being overly obtrusive.
My intention has always been for my music to be freely available for anyone to use, so you can find all my tracks on YouTube / Spotify or within my free Foundry VTT module, with downloadable and looping versions available exclusively to Patreon supporters. I also regularly live stream my composition sessions on YouTube, with the entire back catalog of stream VODs available for Patreon supporters to view.
If you’d like to support me as I attempt to move to full-time TTRPG composition, as well as take part in polls and give track suggestions to help me decide what tracks to work on next, check out my Patreon. But either way, I hope you enjoy the music and that it enhances your games at the table or online. And thank you Will for this space!
"Valhalla Awaits" is an atmospheric combat track with a Norse-inspired feel. It’s certainly one of the more intense tracks from my most recent album release, which you can find here. [Note from Will: I friggin' love this track. When I was trying to write my own tune "Helgisiðir," I kept going back to "Valhalla Awaits" for inspo. Ian's music is extremely broad, so while this tune has some dope Norse vibes, his library has tunes for just about any RPG occasion]

McRoMusic
McRoMusic has been playing and composing music for nearly 20 years and is an avid tabletop RPG fan. Now he's married the two, and is creating high-quality music for players and GMs to enjoy at their table! McRoMusic can be found on Spotify (and anywhere else that you stream your music), and also has a Bandcamp store and Patreon if you would like to support him directly.
"Reaching New Heights" is a constantly evolving, emotional rollercoaster of a track that is meant for big, cinematic, inspiring moments in your games. It can be found on the album, Songs To Slay Dragons To, Vol. 3, available on Bandcamp and anywhere you stream music. Looping and piano versions of the track can be found on Patreon. [Note from Will: I've collaborated with Sean (aka McRoMusic) quite a few times now, and I've been so impressed with how much his music has evolved in that time. This track of his has those particular JRPG-esque harmonies that you know I love. I'm stoked this is the track he picked to share!]

Kyellan
I make a variety of instrumental music, mainly focused on soundtrack and ambience with a fantasy bent, but I have also been known to tread in the realms of lo-fi, solo piano compositions, as well as sci-fi and modern vibes. My primary musical influences in this realm are Nobuo Uematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda, Harry Gregson-Williams and Jack Wall. I aim to do the soundtrack for a video game one day. Before the end of 2021, I will have released 50 tracks under the CC-BY license for free and open use.
"Fragile Refuge": After a harrowing encounter, the heroes have barricaded themselves in a dusty chamber. The door will not hold for long, but perhaps they can catch their breath, just for a moment. [Note from Will: Kyellan is one of the newer composers in our scene, but I'm already stoked about what he's making. Big up for releasing his music under a Creative Commons license! Very excited to see what sort of music he'll tackle as his audience grows.]
