Pure Combat
Added 2020-04-04 02:22:58 +0000 UTCLook, tactical combat is fun. I love roleplaying, dungeoneering, storytelling, downtime, puzzles, and all of the other facets of TTRPGs, but well-balanced engaging combat encounters are still some of the most satisfying segments of my RPG experiences. Sometimes, you need a little plot hook to get your party fighting and loving every minute of it.
Cue the coliseum. Especially for morally upright players, it can be hard to square the desire for cathartic combat with the profound interest in keeping the peace. A well designed arena circumvents this pacifist mindset in the name of SPORT. In one of my campaigns, the BBEG (Qiliria Tallrene) held a combat tournament to try to identify a suitably battleworn consort. For a brief moment, the party could wantonly duke it out while trying to gain access to the villain they've been chasing for the past 6 months. The arena was quickly nicknamed "Qiliria's Qoliseum," so the title for this track was a no-brainer.
The coliseum fanfare was also the winner of our April poll for track requests, so clearly a lot of you have need for something like this! Normally, I'd give you a bunch of potential uses for this one, but you guys know what this is for. Get out your spreadsheets, roll initiative, and throw on "Qoliseum."
