About the childhood cholesterol:
Dietary cholesterol alone does not cause high serum cholesterol (cholesterol in your blood). Your body has ways of getting rid of excess cholesterol coming in from your diet.
Around the late 1990s, we realized that there is no direct correlation between dietary and blood cholesterol:

Causes of high serum cholesterol include genetic factors (familial high cholesterol) as well as having overweight or obesity; diabetes is also a common cause of high cholesterol.
Eating unhealthy foods high in saturated fats is a risk factor for high cholesterol. It is important to distinguish "risk factor" from "cause." Think about it this way - an adult who eats ice cream every day is more likely to have a BMI >25 (overweight) or >30 (obesity). Having a BMI in these ranges can cause high serum cholesterol. Eating the ice cream makes it more likely that you have high cholesterol, but ice cream alone does not cause the high cholesterol.
This means an adult who eats ice cream every day but stays at a BMI of 20 (normal) could absolutely have a normal serum cholesterol. A child who eats ice cream every day, has a normal BMI, but also has high serum cholesterol - we should not forget about genetic causes. Familial hypercholesterolemia (inherited high cholesterol) is the most common cause of high cholesterol in children.
Your pediatrician meant well. She may not have been entirely correct, but I am just a person on the internet so don't trust me entirely either. I am sorry you had to deal with that.

thank you so much for sharing these stories. it really helps people feel less alone in general but it also allows us to see that it IS possible to heal from trauma like this. recently i’ve started talking to my brother about our childhoods and it has helped me realize that things were much worse than i let myself believe as well as helping me understand where certain issues i have originated. because of that, hearing lily mention how long it took her to process just how bad what happened to her in the main episode was and how that one moment when she was young heavily contributed to how she struggles with people misunderstanding what she says, really resonated with me and helped me feel seen in a way that i don’t often get to. there’s so much more to appreciate, but genuinely, thank you.
