Compression again

About the video Darragh posted the threshold=the compression knob in his video. Now about the attack release timing.
Longer attack means more transients (10 to 100ms) Shorter means less transients (0 to 10ms). When do you use which? try both and see which works in your mix.

Very fast release means distortion (0 to 5ms) Fast release means "breathing fast" (5 to 15ms). Slower means making your track breath slower (20 to 200). Breathing in this analysis is like turning the fader back up.

What's the difference between a compressor and a limiter. They are the same thing, one has an inf to 1 ratio. When do you use a limiter? To control extreme dynamics or at the end of a song. When do you use a compressor? To "flavor" or adsr control sound. Both mean the same thing.

how do I get better at using either? Start using them over and over until you go.. oh. well that's kind of boring :)
