Person of Interest 5x13 Reaction

Comments

They never changed Shaw's character, they had always planned for her to have at least A BIT of emotions (I mean without that she doesn't really get a character arc either). In season 3 episode 5 (so quite early considering when she was introduced into the show) when we get the flashbacks about her dad's death and a lot of character developpment about her, it's already said that she does feel things, but it's just that the "volume" of her emotions is turned down. What's true tho is that after Samaritan's torture in season 5 she looked a lot more shaken up, and I understand how to can be disturbing to see such a badass character in a more vulnerable state. But yeah Shaw's character arc was quite coherent throughout the show.

I waited watching these last episodes with you because it certainly is an end of an era. Great reactions as always and a beautiful way to finish this series. I'm not going to write much, but Reese going out like this was exactly what was supposed to happen and I loved it. Seeing Root take the Machine's physical form was such a cool thing, and i'm so happy that they didn't close the chapter entirely on the machine, but thinking about Shaw and possibly Fusco too (sometimes?) going after numbers spearheaded by Bear of course, just makes me very happy. It's also great to see Harold finally reconnect with Grace. Lastly, there are several parallels to the Pilot in this finale, but I love that it ends exactly like the Pilot episode with the same camera focusing on a mass of people, but instead of Reese, it's now Shaw and Bear. Beautiful ending. This show was special.

Just caught up. Thank you so much for reacting to one of my favorite shows of all time! I really wish this last season was longer. It really feels like they had a lot more ideas they wanted to explore. We got a few bits of it in this season, but I wish there was more time to explore them more. With that said, I absolutely LOVED how the show ends. I think it hits all the right emotions and manages to end with some optimism. Thanks again, man. Been quite the ride!

An little extra detail, at the end, we see Shaw with Root's jacket.

It's been quite the ride. I love Reese, but he was the right one to go and they gave him a badass send off. Finch gets his ending with Grace. Shaw, Bear and mostly likely Fusco are a team. It works. The broship of Reese/Finch on full display here was a wonder pay off. One of my favorite series finales. Glad you enjoyed it!

Return 0- Oh... This episode's ending makes me cry so hard every time I watch it. Watching Reese give his life to save Finch and the world from Samaritan, is so tragic and yet beautiful too. And as much as it breaks my heart to see Reese die, this is most certainly the ending I would expect for Reese, and the only right way for Person of Interest to end. After all... Reese dies a hero, when since from the beginning, Reese has never seen himself as such. He's only ever believed himself to be a monster because he was a killer, when he never was. He has always fought to protect people. And killed when it was necessary or ordered of him to do. Reese is a good, good man. Also... Finch tells Reese in the Pilot that they would both probably wind up dead by the end. And while Finch survives, these words are perfect foreshadowing for what inevitably comes of Reese. I absolutely love it! John Reese is my overall favorite character all throughout this phenomenal show that very quickly has risen up to be one of my all time favorite shows. And Jim Caviezel as Reese is absolutely incredible. He's been my favorite actor for a number of roles in movies I've seen him in for many years now, and before Person of Interest first aired. And yet... his role as Reese has only made me love Jim Caviezel all the more! Michael Emerson as Harold Finch is marvelous too. I really love this character as well. I love being able to be constantly in awe of just how smart Finch really is. And I love that all of Finch's many aliases are named after birds because his father had learned everything about the birds for his, on account of Finch being comforted by them when he was a baby. I absolutely love how well Michael Emerson and Jim Caviezel play off one another. Most of all... I absolutely love the friendship developed over the seasons between Reese and Finch. While the dynamics between the characters change and develop into something stronger and wonderful once other members of the team join these original two men by the end of season two and in season three, in fighting to save the people that the government consider irrelevant, Reese and Finch remain my two favorite characters. Detective Lionel Fusco is another of my favorite characters just behind Reese and Finch. I love Fusco, and I love his actor... Kevin Chapman. Fusco makes me laugh thanks to his wit and sarcasm. And I really love his eventual friendship with Reese too. Carl Elias, Detective Joss Carter, Root, Sameen Shaw, Anthony (Elias' right hand man), and Zoe Morgan are all also brilliant stand out characters throughout this show I really love as well. While I really do love both Root and Shaw all throughout the show, I don't really care much for their developed relationship. I see the chemistry between them and their actresses, and I know that most fans of this show absolutely love them together, but I am not a fan. I'm just grateful that their romance isn't too overwhelming. I still love their characters through the ending of this show nonetheless. Nor am I a fan of the storyline written for Shaw starting in the second half of season four and throughout season five. Sarah Shahi (Shaw) became pregnant at this time during the filming, and so she had to leave the show for a time, but she did not want Shaw to be killed off because she loved being a part of Person of Interest. And I think it's wonderful that Shaw remains very much a part of this show even when she's missing. I just wish that the creators and writers had written a much better storyline for Shaw. Because I really don't care a whole lot for the storyline where Shaw is kept prisoner by Samaritan and its allies, while she's forced to live thousands of false scenarios under Samaritan. Nor do I care much for how obsessed Root becomes to find her, almost at the cost of our other heroes' lives as well as her own. Also... As much as I do love Root just as she is, a part of me also really loved her more as a villain back when she was her phenomenal psycho self in season one's finale, and throughout two and most of season three. And I almost would have preferred her to remain as she was back when she is first introduced into this show. I think that her weird flirting with Shaw, especially starting in season four and in the end of season five, kind of ruins her character a little for me. Either way... I really do love Root. This ending with Shaw picking up the phone and with the Machine surviving is the reason for the previous episode... Synecdoche, being essential to this series. There was an idea for this show to get a spinoff, with Shaw taking over as Reese's character and with Lionel staying on as the detective within the precinct, while Bear, Harper Rose, Logan Pierce, Joey Durban, Daniel Casey, and Jason Greenfield all becoming their team to help them protect the numbers. Sadly... this spinoff never took off, but I absolutely would have watched it if it had. Maybe one day... it still will. :) And Lastly... Finch survives in the end, and returns to live the rest of his life with Grace, which is the perfect ending for him too. I think that he and Grace would be safe, with Samaritan destroyed and all of the threats who knew of him and Grace eliminated, which they all are as far as I can remember. All in all... I absolutely love Person of Interest. It's not without its flaws, and there is one episode in season five that I typically skip over because I don't care for it much at all. The episode in season five titled... 6,741. But I absolutely love all the rest. And while there are many episodes that certainly stand out above all the rest, I really do love them all. With the exception of the one episode I dislike. And I love all of the characters that make up the numbers who our heroes fight to save as well. Thank you very much for all of your many reactions for Person of Interest... one of my all time favorite shows, once again, Clint!! I truly appreciate them. And I am so, so happy I could introduce this incredible show to you, for you to enjoy. I am so, so happy to hear that you've come to absolutely love this show as I do. :) So, thank you! Sincerely, Heidi
