Hello Deathlings,
Today we proudly publish another article in the Death Gap series.
Since this article falls during the same the week as the National Day Of Mourning, we wanted to devote space to covering the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women epidemic.
Using the extensive work and research of the Urban Indian Health Institute (UIHI), and insight of indigenous activists, guest writer, Anna V. Bayona-Strauss' article #MMIW: The Life and Death of Stolen Sisters, provides historical context and pinpoints three of the major factors contributing to this tragic epidemic.
...we must take action to protect indigenous femmes and communities as a whole, to use our privilege and position to elevate their voices and sovereignty, and follow their examples to prevent this epidemic from continuing to claim precious lives.

With this in mind Anna has created a list of informational sources, and actionable resources at the end of the piece so you can not only learn more about this issue, but also how you can provide support.
I hope all of you find time this week to not only enjoy some comforts (whether they be food-related or just rest-related) but also to acknowledge, witness, and educate yourself on the American history that fed into this epidemic.
Onward deathlings!
From an appropriate social distance,
Caitlin
