Friday Night Lights 5X1: Expectations

Ugh. It looks like we're losing Landry this season. No! And Julie set off for college at the end of this episode, but she was in the title credits; Landry not so much. And Tim is no longer in the title credit either. So this means that Becky is a full time cast member, but Tim is not? Boo.

Anyway, Tim is still in jail with about 3 months or so left to go. Apparently, both Billy and Becky are visiting him often and he wants them to stop. I wonder if it's because he feels guilty that they are doing it, or that it's hurts to see them leave all the time when he's got to go back in a cell?

Buddy convinces Eric to 'steal' a basketball player to play for the Lions. I guess the only target Vince really has is Luke, so they need another receiver. However, he's not really interested in football. But Eric asks Vince and Luke to convince him. They can't. So Vince asks Jess to do it. (Oh yeah, Vince and Jess are dating now). She seems to be successful, as the next day we see him fighting with the basketball coach about how he's going to join the football team, and then he gets on the bus and heads to the game with them.

So, somehow, the Lions win the first game of the season. (Actually, I know how, the opposing team's quarterback got hurt after a hell of a hit from Luke). The new basketball guy tells the coach he knows one of the guys on the other team, and he can jump higher than him. They throw the ball way over top, and he manages to pull it in for a touchdown.

Tami, on the other hand, is not doing so well. She's learning quickly quickly how depleted the resources are at East Dillion. She doesn't even have a working phone and is using her home phone to try to contact parents. And speaking of the parents, they are not really involved with the students. Even when she did manage to schedule meetings with them, they didn't show up. She's feeling a little let down and maybe disillusioned.

And Becky, who is staying with her dad's other family while her mom is away, is miserable. She's treated like trash and the wife is constantly calling her dad to try to figure out how to get rid of her. Eventually, she shows up on Billy and Mindy's doorstep asking if she can stay with them. I don't think they feel like they can say 'no' since Tim is in jail for Billy.
