Squid Game S1 Ep: 7-9 (FULL REACTION)

I thought episode 6 was dark...but that finale. It was super interesting to listen to the game-makers philosophy and why they created the games. I super excited to see how this ties into Season 2! Enjoy :)

I love Alice in Borderland!

Noeliva

Why ?

Manon Savary

You should see Squid Game - the Challenge next before watching Squid Game Season 2.

Statmanjeff

I originally saw this series quite a while ago and it is (of course) awesome. The director/producer did not originally plan on a sequal (even though the ending is set up that way). It was more of a stylistic choice to leave it open-ended and have lingering questions about what happened next. I think it was very close to a perfect conclusion, so I do have trepedations about watching the sequel. I hope it does not detract from the original.

Timothy Panngam

The first 2 episodes were a little bit of a slow burn IMO but it picks up a lot and I am even on my second rewatch lol

Jeanette Dawe

I can't wait for next season reaction It is more of a slower burn but still so exciting I still binged it all in one sitting and couldn't look away. A LOT of amazing characters to root for IMO.

Jeanette Dawe

yeah they definitely could have just shot whoever didn't make it across :( but the glass shattering was more of a spectacle, and they wanted it to be peak entertainment value ig, especially since in this case they wouldn't have had anyone to shoot anyway

aleena

I suggest also watching Alice in Borderland on Netflix! It’s Japanese about also needing to win games and survive.

I understand your point of view, although I don't agree. :) My point is that Dong-hyuk wrote and planned the first season for more than 10 years, and it shows in the quality of the work. He has also openly said that he didn't want to do a sequel, but "money convinced him". (Rolling Stone: www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-news/squid-game-creator-season-two-money-1235161241/) I'm glad you liked the second season, and I hope it finds many happy viewers. Personally, I didn't like it, so I think the first season is the real Squid Game for me. What was important to me was the social commentary of the first season, which I think got lost in the second season among some other things.

Vilma

excited to see you react to season 2, seems like its getting a lot of negative responses but I personally really enjoyed it! honestly was quite surprised to see all the reactions to it but I guess there are different elements that people like about the show and some of them were more focused on in the second season and some they moved away from

Uma Hughes-Collins

Season 2 was not rushed at all. Dong-hyuk started writing season 2 and 3 shortly after Season 1 aired, over 3 years ago. Netflix gave him "as much time as he would need". And they literally spent 3 years on writing and production. And he simply said that S2 and S3 will help him get compensated fairly, also for the success of S1. But that's very normal in the business - you never make good money on S1 as nobody knows how watchable it will be. After it's a hit, then you start making a lot more. Joining the topics of compensation with the fact that you didn't like season 2 is a bit of a manipulation. It was not rushed just because Dong-hyuk said he will be compensated better. Quality is a matter of personal preference, I think it is a step up from season 1. Doesn't really matter, the overall reviews are in the majority very positive, apart from the fact that season 2 and 3 should have been probably called "part 1 and part 2".

Chris B

Totally fair! But yeah it just seems like they knew that could be a disadvantage to those who made it and just felt extra unnecessary lol

Heather Geer

I'm pretty sure the reason they shattered the glass was to eliminate anyone who may have not crossed the bridge within the time limit because, like the other games, anyone who doesn't finish in time gets killed. I do agree it was an unfair way to go about it since that would naturally cause injury to the survivors. But I'm almost positive that that was the reason they did it and not just because.

Mallika Anand

The creator of the series said in an interview that he meant Squid Game to last only one season. He felt that he was not being compensated by Netflix for the huge success of the series, so he continued the series "for the money". That's why the second season is very different in quality (it was done quickly). And that's why I personally decided that for me the series is only the first season. :) In my opinion, the ending does not mean that the protagonist would try to stop the games. For me, it means three things: 1. "I'm not a horse". He takes back his agency, the control over his own life. His agency has been lost many times during the games and even before. 2. He turns his back on the plane, which means the exploitative capitalist system in general: he doesn't accept it. 3. He continues his "human flaw" which we saw at the beginning of the series and abandons his daughter again.

Vilma

The thing I never understood about the glass game is what really was the point in shattering everything after everyone was across? Their whole thing about the game is supposed to be “following rules” and being “fair” to the game, but if they hadn’t done that, Sae-Byeok would have not essentially died how she did and could have potentially made it out with Gi-Hun. It feels like they didn’t follow their own rules with it.

Heather Geer

lovely to have you back again. I'm looking forward to many adventures in '25.

Jim Schmitz

i admire your sense of optimism so much man. i like how you put things in perspective about all the good in the world after watching a show literally full of human cruelty.

aleena

Yes, I agree his overall intention was wrong. There's no doubt he's a major scumbag.

Michael Short

No the thing is, you could be right, it may have been the best thing for her. What we’re saying is the intention behind killing her was wrong.

Oscar

Maybe I'm projecting my feelings onto her. But I think despite his intentions it would be far better not to suffer. I personally don't think the game makers would care enough to give her medical treatment

Michael Short

yeah it’s that his intentions were not to put her out of her misery imo. Sang Woo has lost so much of himself: stealing and selling people’s investments and futures, putting his moms shop and home up as collateral, killing Ali with lies and manipulation, pushing ol dude off the glass game (which i understand that one) but my point is, it seems like he knew he couldn’t go home empty handed and he sure as hell wasn’t going to do all he did for nothing. so i think him murdering her was just another thing he told himself he had to do, and hey he’s already come this far, loss this much morality- what’s one more morally reallllyyyy gray decision if it means that 45.8 billion is his. at least that’s how i see it

Alicia Cue

i think it’s so neat and twisted that as more and more people die, and they remove the beds that you can see that there are hints on the walls about what the games are.

Alicia Cue

If she gave him permission, sure. But I think if you’re not 100% sure the person can be saved, you don’t have the right to make that choice. Also I think I ALMOST agree with the idea of a mercy death, but the thing is it was ultimately about getting her out of the picture so that the games could keep going and he could win the cash prize. That was his true motivation. “Mercy” was just his cover story.

Oscar

As much of a scumbag as Sang Woo is, I think it was right to put Sae Byok out of her misery. She was going to die anyway, why let her suffer?

Michael Short

Please react to Big Time Rush! Once you have time to start a new series of course. I think you'll love it!
