infiltration means they suffer fewer casualties, and have a better chance of success, there's no honor in allowing yourself to be slaughtered, that doesn't mean sending in assassins, if it were a traditional castle the infiltration would be to open the gate, but they are dealing with a base that was never meant to hold many people, only a small team would be able to operate within anyways,

2022-07-24 19:02:46 +0000 UTCYou're quite correct. The point of this first assault had 2 main objectives, both of which were accomplished... just not in what he intends to do with Trish. By this point, Roland doesn't know that they know he has Trish, nor is certain that Forest is among the army (it is likely but he hasnt received confirmation) Infiltration is the way to go. But guardians have a stricter code of honor, such roguish approach goes against their usual MO. so their idea is to siege the place, unaware that Roland holds a hostage.

2022-07-24 13:59:09 +0000 UTCthe reason for the poison is 2 fold, first is that it does weaken them, second is that it's a demonstration of what he intends to do with Trish, he knows that unless someone with sufficient knowledge of herbology came prepared, having an antidote ready would be unlikely, when they do meet for Parley, they must act as though the poison worked. they already made the error in assuming the wards they set up would be enough they must not compound it by revealing the error Roland made. Forest has likely proven herself well enough through her actions that even if Roland reveals the truth about Ogre in front of the captains that aren't aware, it wouldn't be as bad as had it happened before, but the people who join her in the infiltration are going to need to know how she knows everything, and while she will do what she can with her medical knowledge, they will have to be volunteers who accept a lower survival chance. Infiltration is the only real option, the other major strategies give too much time and warning and would allow Roland to portal away, leaving them with nothing to show for the casualties they'd take.
