Today and tomorrow

Today I put up the short version of yesterday's video. Tomorrow I should be putting up Blender Part 4. I actually lost NO TEXTURES recording it, so get ready to see textures not being lost 👍

Small aside about YT shorts. They've been very helpful for upping overall views and subs lately. Im enjoying making them and having even just one short a day to put out in between regular videos is nice. I do have one small issue with the format that I hope YouTube changes soon though.

When I was first making shorts (my first was for the round gamecube vid) you could choose a thumbnail as you could any video. YouTube quickly removed that feature so now thumbnails are randomly chosen from a unknown frame of the short.

It may not seem like a big deal, but nobody looks at the shorts titles, making thumbnails far more important for peoples interest. Although it doesn't matter when you're already swiping through shorts, the thumbnail is pretty much 100% of the reason you would click to start watching a specific short to begin with, and is a huge factor on if you short gains traction. So right now, one of the big deciding factors of a shorts popularity is a complete dice roll.

People who are good at marketing and thumbnails are lowered to RNG and people who aren't sometimes just get lucky. I just don't like luck being a factor, even though my luck has been good with shorts so far.

ALSO since I'm just rant typing at this point, since you COULD put custom thumbnails early on in the shorts lifetime, those shorts that do have customs, now eternally have a leg up. Very odd.

Youtube does plan on adding thumbnails back so thats at least something to look farwards to.

Thats my marketing rant for the day. For my own curiosities, how much do you all think the thumbnail matter for short?
