[edit] just to add, I agree with your interpretation, basically: Callum was 30yo and dealing with depression and suicidal ideation, barely holding it together, and he killed himself after Sophie left. The holiday was the last time she saw him. Some viewers suggest a few scenes may be non-chronological or foreshadowing (him walking into the ocean e.g). And adult Sophie is the same age Callum was when he killed himself, with a family of her own, desperately trying to understand why by rewatching the old holiday videos she recorded.

An incredibly debut that's laced with details that kill you on the rewatch. A small detail I read from someone else: The adult Sophie has the expensive rug that Callum went back to buy under her bed, so it's literally the first thing she steps onto every morning. And a detail I noticed myself: Callum tells Sophie that she can talk to him 'about anything' after she tells him about kissing a boy... i bet (from personal experience) she wishes she could have talked to him about 'liking girls' and having a girlfriend...
