2021-07-06 23:25:08 +0000 UTCI remember watching Chunking Express eons ago. And noticing the filmmaking. I would say it is so unique. It was the first film I ever looked up the director of photography (Christopher Doyle). And the first Hong Kong film i saw and loved that wasn't produced by Golden Harvest or Shaw Brothers. I havent seen it in a minute. Been trying to get on digital in UK. Wong Kar Wais films are are hard to come by. Hopefully it holds up to my memory. Would love a rewatch.

2021-07-06 20:01:08 +0000 UTCIt looks like Ran is probably out of the running this week, but its a least staying pretty close to the top, so it should be safe for another try. [Insert mild complaint that there are no Robert Altman movies on the poll here]

2021-07-05 23:45:40 +0000 UTCRan, Primal Fear, Platoon, Road To Perdition and Near Dark A King Lear retelling in medieval Japan ... a breakout performance that put Edward Norton on the map ... Oliver Stone's best film ever (where once someone died, then left the film and it shot in chronological script order) ... One of the most faithful comic book adaptations ever .... Near Dark is Katheryn Bigelow's first film and serious triumph plus you get to see a Cameron-verse cast having fun, especially the late Bill Paxton
