(Timeline Tuesday #177)
Gigantagorns are an enormous, peaceful species of timeline traveling creatures who sometimes wander into our reality using their natural timeline displacement ability. Technically speaking, they are invertebrates, but gigantagorns bear little resemblance to the invertebrates of our timeline.
This species ranges from twenty to fifty yards across, and twice as long from top to bottom. The body of a gigantagorn is perfectly spherical and almost entirely hollow, puffed up with a gas that the creatures naturally synthesize using. They do this with a special enzyme that breaks down oxygen and creates something lighter. This causes gigantagorns to float through the air like a massive balloon, even when they’re at rest. Gigantagorns have purple skin, although the mass of tentacles that hang from the bottom of their form can vary in shades from pink to blue. They have a large beak, similar to that of a bird, which is also blue. This species is equipped with eight yellow eyes that shine in the darkness, and are helpful to steer airplanes clear at night.
Gigantagorns eat insects and small birds that are swept up in their tentacles. Their communication abilities are not very complex, but every once in a while they can be heard emitting a long, low bellow.
Gigantagorns are of animal intelligence and mostly concerned with their basic needs. They are gentle and easily frightened, always preferring to retreat rather than fight. Because their movements are often guided by the wind, you might think escape would be difficult for a gigantagorn, but this is hardly the case. Natural abilities of timeline manipulation allow these creatures to move between layers of reality with relative ease, making them quite difficult to catch.
Because of their friendly demeanor, the arrival of a gigantagorn is seen as a huge blessing and will often make the local news of any nearby cities. People will drive for miles to watch these creatures as they float along, simply enjoying the presence of such a majestic beast.
