JELLYFINCH - TIMELINE #342019

(Timeline Tuesday #42)

Jellyfinches are gelatinous invertebrates, closely resembling the natural jellyfish of this timeline. Their bodies measure approximately one foot across, but the tendrils that hang down from these central forms are much longer, growing up to four feet in length. Despite their soft, semi-translucent bodies, jellyfinches sport two features that are much harder, their beaks and their feathered wings. Inside these clear entities are clouds of orange, where their venom is generated.

Jellyfinches are driven by instinct, lacking a brain and featuring little by way of internal organs. Instead, they float through the air, drifting on natural wind currents that carry them from place to place. Jellyfinches can use their wings to direct these movements, but complex maneuvers are rare.

When potential prey is close to a jellyfinch, these creature can sense it using their own mild psychic ability. The jellyfinch will immediately begin drifting toward its target, allowing its long tentacles to drag through the air below. Anyone sting by a jellyfinch tendril will find themselves in incredible pain, but that is far from the worst effect. The stinging tentacles of a jellyfinch also secrete a mighty paralytic agent, causing anyone who touches one to tighten up and freeze within a matter of seconds.

After the prey is paralyzed, jellyfinches will float down and slowly eat their meal, using their hard beak to tear away chunks of flesh. Fortunately, this creature requires little food before moving on, meaning they pose a danger to larger animals, but are not necessarily deadly. However, it is incredibly important to steer clear of jellyfinch swarms.
