COAT SNAKE - TIMELINE #30722

(Timeline Tuesday #33)

The existence of other timelines creates a great variety of creatures, and with infinite variables it’s no wonder these entities continue to amaze and even confuse us. Plenty of these distant travelers even push against our understanding of what defines a lifeform. There are, however, some creatures that are shocking in their simplicity. These animals are often indistinguishable from a species on this timeline, save for one small detail.

The perfect example of this is the coat snake.

Coat snakes are small, reptilian creatures covered is scales. They are limbless, and propel themselves across the ground using a unique slithering motion, undulating from side to side. The creatures are cold bolded, and lay eggs. They are similar to the snakes of this reality in almost every way, except for one.

Coat snakes are always clad in tiny fur coats, which they wrap around their bodies at approximately “neck” height. These coats feature two arm holes, despite the coat snakes lack of arms. It is unknown where these coats come from, despite keen observations of these creatures from several scientists. In captivity, the coats will appear buried someone within a coat snake’s cage, and if put under constant surveillance the coat will simply never arrive. It’s been suggested the coats themselves are some form of timeline entity, but this theory falls apart under scrutiny.

When one of these coats is placed next to a natural snake, the reptile will not react. Natural snakes will always refute a coat snake’s coat, having no concept of what to do with it.
