(Timeline Tuesday #30)
Antilearns are a highly intelligent species of large insect, standing approximately three feet tall and appearing in two distinct colorations, cherry red or dark black. The creatures feature a flat, rounded head upon which six eyes are placed, as well as a mandible mouth they use for chattering in a distinct language of chirps and hums. Antilearns have eight tentacled legs, which carry impressive strength and can be used to easily manipulate objects as these creatures maneuver about the timeline.
While their appearance can be frightening to those unaware of the creature’s nature, the behavior of antilearns is far from aggressive. By all accounts these are sweet, thoughtful insects whose motivations are rarely, if ever, hostile.
This is mostly attributed to the very distinct way antilearns consume and process energy. While most animals require sustenance by way of food and digestion, antilearns do not eat. They also do not gather energy through photosynthesis. Instead, these insects gain sustenance by breaking down new information, studying and learning as much as they possibly can. The creatures are voracious readers, consuming as many books as they can get their hands on.
It goes without saying that antilearns would be excellent conversationalists if they could speak any language but their own. Unfortunately, the creatures are restricted by the nature of their chirping mandibles. However, Antilearns are known to be incredible authors and scientists, masters of the written word whose publications are highly regarded across multiple timelines.
