The dorm's bedroom floor background

Hey everyone!

One of the things I worked on this week, was the bedroom floor of the the girls dorm. And this was actually quite a fun fun room to design. Not becasuse it was so visually exciting, but I just really like working n rooms that have some kind of moving element in them. And in this case it was an elevator as you can see below.

Now this is just where Keen enters the bedroom-floor, but the entire floor consists out of 3 screens and looks like this (see attachment for bigger image).

Now when drawing this floor, I just drew the middle, and right part of it. And I then mirrored the right part tomake the left part as well. Of couse I still have to tweak some details like the numbers next to the doors, or the shadows on the ground. But mirroring things like this can save a lot time.

So this is what I actually drew.

Looking back at it, I think the biggest challenge for me here was finding the righ colors for this background. And that’s because in game there will be a row of girls in the background, who will be wearing outfits in many different colors*. So therefore I didn’t want to make this enviorment too colorfull - and so I went for a rather desaturated yellowish-white/ orange color scheme. But maybe it's too desaturated...?

Meanwhile I’m also working on the ground floor of this building, and I hope the same color scheme will work there too. This is my initial sketch for the groundfloor (see attachment for bigger image).

Now this is more of a gamedesign sketch then something artsy -but next time I hope to be able to show you a more finished version of this.
