Hit the Spot: BEST start to 2023 (Amy)

SPOILER THREAD for anyone who has finished, though I won't put any spoilers in my initial post...

OMG I am giddy with how much I loved this compact little gem of a drama! Even with such a short overall story, the writing of the female leads was so well done. They had empowering arcs with great emotional growth from who they were at the beginning to who they were at the end. AND ALL THE SEX POSITIVITY AND DISMANTLING THE SHAME. And these HEROES. The female gaze both visually and in their treatment of women! GAH! Such sexy little cinnamon rolls! What did y'all think? I can't wait to cover this on the pod (soon)!

I really just think the end was rushed because, yes, it did end too easily as far as Hee Jae and In Chan's reconciliation. If it was ten episodes, they could have fleshed it out better. But I appreciated the attempt, especially with her wearing the earrings. ;)

I totally respect this, Becky. It definitely just hit me in the right spot when I started it. Well, not THAT spot. LOL.

The last episode kind of made this fall flat for me. I wanted it to either be Hee Jae sticking to her guns about being single, or Hee Jae and In Chan moving forward. I get the whole "I need to find myself" after her five-year relationship, but it was weird to me that she took only an extra month to be ready to jump into it with In Chan. This ending seemed a little unfair. She broke his heart, but he's totally cool with things a month later? That's kind of unrealistic to me, especially given his professional specialty of understanding and respecting a person's feelings and boundaries. I did, however, love the friendship between Hee Jae and Mi Na. The support and love they showed each other was great. I wish that this one had been out when you did your female friendships episode! I'm glad that this show worked to break taboos and address sex, menstruation, etc. I think it is needed, and this was an effective little show for just that.

So despite the fact that I binged episodes 2-8 all tonight, I think I’m alone in thinking it was just ok. Cute, yes. And I want to cheer loudly for breaking a bunch of taboos!!! But the story just fell a bit flat for me. I experienced most of it like the sex ed class I wish I’d had in my teens, which isn’t really what I want out of a drama now. Loved the four leads and can’t wait to see them in more. But…meh.
