K-Drama Water cooler

So I’ve had some requests to open up a post as general “K-drama water cooler” discussions. People can start threads on whatever (just be mindful of spoilers) that you need to get off your chest. Likely there is another Patreon on your sale journey lolol.

If ya’ll like it we can do this more often.

Let me know!

Hi I'm super late to this water cooler party but I have nowhere else where anyone will get it. On someone's recommendation here I watched Sh**ting Stars and followed the ML to Extraordinary You. A little while ago I watched King's Affection and also liked it. I liked how the show chose to deal with gender and prejudice, but I felt pretty academic about it. Now seeing the ML from King's Affection in a different role I see why more why he's a big deal. I am still in the middle and don't know how it ends yet, but at this point it seems likely to land in my top 5. Smart plot, seems both tough and fun for an actor, and I also feel like it dispelled some of the problems with the high school setting by looking at it reflexively/breaking the fourth wall. I have a lot of thoughts on this one and no one who reads my personal social media has any idea. So, thanks if anyone reads this and gets it :)

I don't know if anyone will be checking back on this post, but.....My Liberation Notes took a turn in today's episode.

So I'm watching live dropping From Now On, Showtime and I'm really enjoying it - anyone else watching it? Megan, I think it might be a good one for you, it's got plenty of action and is relatively light-hearted so far :)

Sarah @afternoonaasks

I agree, sometimes topics aren't enough for a whole post but this kind of drop in post is great!

Sarah @afternoonaasks

I watched Dr Foster and I didn't like it, though there was a lot to admire, it was just too "melo" for me, so I gave this one a wide berth despite all the hype around it...!

I vote for doing this more often. I check the site a couple times each day hoping to see a new comment on a recent post and every weekend I look forward to hearing what everyone’s watching, so I love the idea of a watercooler post.

Kathi

My fingers are crossed for this one, so thanks for the 👍.

I shocked myself by not hating the first episode of the new Netflix JCW drama where he is a magician. It kind of works! It was also just nice to see his face again.

I agree the weekly drops are such a pita. But I’m watching Liberation Notes and Tomorrow. In the meantime, I usually will read a post about a show and try it. I’m watching Goblin and Tale of the nine Tailed. Both were because of recs I saw. Love them both but I’m a Lee Donk-wook fan.

I watched The World of the Married and can I say that while it was gripping (so I sort of understand why it was so popular) it didn't thrill me as much as I thought it would. Possibly it just went on for too long - of course I watched it over a short period of time (a week or so) and in hindsight wonder if it would have been better to watch more spaced out. After a while all the ins and outs began to resemble each other and I sort of reached saturation. I read it was based on a BBC drama which I did watch - Dr Foster - and I remember being entirely all in for the thriller type aspect of that in the first series but then they came back for a second series and it seemed to never quite pick up where it left off. So possibly this was all series squished into one which is why I felt it ran out of steam a little. Has anyone else watched it?

Ahhhh yeah! Thank you. Welcome to Patreon

Megan Erickson

I agree with this.

How do you choose what to watch? Currently airing dramas? Complete fully bingeable shows? Do you see an actor or actress that you like and then track down everything that they’ve been in? I do some of all of the above, including current shows—I really don’t like waiting a week for the next 2 or 1 episodes, but crazily at the moment I am watching 6 of them.

Claudia Copeland

You had me at BTS. Loved the episode!

Eunice Choi

Generally no. Too often the trailers, like the posters for dramas, are deliberately misleading. Re: Liberation Notes, see the comments above. It IS dark, so, buyer beware 😜. Side note: when buying wine, my brother picks by which bottles have the most eye catching label.

Claudia Copeland

Does anyone judge trailers before watching a series? I watched Something in the Rain because the trailer was adorable - and it turned out rather painful. Meanwhile I'm afraid to start My Liberation Notes because the trailer looks dark, but I keep hearing positive things. Side note: i used to work in a library where the librarian taught me to always judge a book by its cover...and I feel like that's carrying over here 😁

Hannah

You might try DP to slowly start him on a series. It’s only 6 episodes. Caution- it’s very violent and disturbing but excellent. (Men coming into compulsory military service)
