I saw Ateez in concert and I’ll never be the same

So first of all I want to thank everyone who sent well wishes for my concert experience. I was anxious about it because I am anxious about everything (lol) but it ended up being absolutely incredible. I laughed. I cried. I screamed. I stomped until my feet ached.

I got into Ateez end of 2020 and became a full-blown Atiny (fandom name) in 2021. I love the vibe of the group. It’s all about teamwork and to shine as bright as you can while being uniquely you.

The atmosphere at the concert reflected that uplifting vibe. The crowd was so fun and kind and just so damn happy. I helped a man who came alone put batteries in his Lightiny (the name of the light stick) and acts of kindness were like that all around. Crowds make me so anxious but it was like everyone was just happy to be there.

The performances were incredible. The guys didn’t hold back and their stage presence was amazing. They were funny and warm and welcoming. There is an emotional song they played at the end and the captain, Hongjoong, started crying. The crowd went crazy in support of him. Later he said it was because there were times during Covid that he thought he would never be able to tour again and so it meant so much to him to be there and we were all like uh, duh, same. 😂

My eight year old daughter, Hazel, did so amazing. She lasted the whole night. She didn’t know all the songs (they played 30!) but she went nuts for the ones she knew. I loved watching her little face light up when a song came on that she recognized.

All in all, it was the best experience and worth every penny. I will do a podcast on my experience soon, maybe with Hazel if that’s something you’re interested in.

Enjoy some pictures! I hope you all have a great week! I’m going to take a nap. 😂

I can't call myself an Atiny...but I have listened to Ateez a lot, mostly all their title tracks, haven't dug deeper...but I L.O.V.E Wonderland, HALA HALA, Say My Name, and Inception. I love what Ateez is putting out into the world, I love their '8 makes 1 team' intro that they say when introducing themselves. I know all these groups are made by their companies, but on average they spend YEARS together before ever debuting, so they have a connection and a bond! I get strong brotherhood vibes from Ateez, Seventeen, BTS, and Stray Kids!

It sounds so wonderful--I'm so happy for you both! What a great bonding experience you will always share. I have to check out Ateez more. I have their song Say My Name in my playlist currently... Thanks for sharing this!

Antonina (Tonya)

It depends on the group. Mostly live with backing vocals, especially during the dance heavy songs. I’ve been to concerts where that percentage was definitely skewed more on backing vocals, but it was bc that person was a smoker😒 but then I’ve also been to ones where there were hardly any background vocals🤷🏽‍♀️

Ok, so I’m going to my first concert because I really want to check it out. I picked the only band headed to SF in early 2022. Blitzers. Whatever, I’m excited and dragging my 25 year old daughter with me. Here’s my question. Are K-pop concerts really live or is it all lip synched? What do you think? And should I even care?

I'm so jealous of your Big Bang experience! That must have been incredible! And yes it was Hazel's first concert and I was just overall nervous it would be too much for her, but she enjoyed the heck out of it. Screamed and sang her heart out.

Megan Erickson

Was it Hazel's first concert!?! Because that is an amazing experience for her and you! And kpop concerts are their own experience. My first, Big Bang 2012, was so amazing and just so awesome to see other people enjoying what I enjoy. Because kpop for the longest time was so niche and not well known, to go to a concert and meet other people where you don't have to take 10 minutes just to explain what kpop is...so glad you had such a good experience!! Can't wait to hear more bout it!!

Jodi Guira

Ah Megan this sounds fantastic! I love the story of the man who came alone to the Ateez concert - go him! And such a lovely experience to share with Hazel, do a pod, I'd love to hear all about it.

I am so happy for you - sounds like it was an AMAZING experience! Can't wait to hear all about it!

Megan…I know you were anxious and so want to shout it again I AM SO PROUD OF YOU! Love everything about this adventure ❤️ -Lia
