Weekend Roundup: what are you watching, planning to watch, dropping, killing with fire, or adoring?

It’s Year of Our Lord 2022 and a Covid variant that sounds like a villain from a Transformers movie wants to make friends. But lucky for us—we have K-drama to light up the long nights and lonely days. So rather than ponder the looming existential dread…I ask…what are ye watching?

Weekend Roundup: what are you watching, planning to watch, dropping, killing with fire, or adoring?

THE RED SLEEVE. I have feelings about this.

Kara Guminski

Our Beloved Summer and The Silent Sea (though not at night anymore, gave me weird space dreams!) Horror/sci-fi isn’t really my genre, but Gong Yu IS DEFINITELY my genre.

Heather Linebarger

I haven't but it's on my list. Hopefully someone else here can help you out! I do hear it's very good.

Megan Erickson

Has anyone watched Crowned Clown? I'm two episodes in and I'm torn about whether I want to keep going. Please advise!

Becky

We've chatted about this but Mr Queen is way funnier and lighter than KA. King A had me crying hard, first episode. There is definitely NO CRYING till towards the end for Mr Q

Sarah @afternoonaasks

Just started The King: Eternal Monarch. I don’t normally watch romance dramas but I wanted to introduce my best friend to them and this seemed like a happy medium between my action drama love and her romance love. Plus Lee Minho is always going to be worth watching on screen.

Kourinthia H Burton

I am still watching Dali and Cocky Prince - for some reason this one hasn't grabbed me hard, despite being mostly enjoyable. And still doing CLOY rewatch with my husband. We are both really enjoying it, but it's slow going at one episode a night or every other night 😝 Looking forward to watching a historical next. Thinking Mr. Queen or Kings Affection

Grace

So many folks are watching Prison Playbook right now! Have you watched Reply 1988? Or Hospital Playlist? Those filled my emotional bucket until I was brimming over!

Megan Erickson

Smile has left your Eyes is definitely a good choice for a cry, so are Come & Hug Me, and Scent of a Woman.

Jules

I was wondering why King's Affection wasn't getting attention! Not a single Netflix targeted ad to me about it, which might make sense given that it's my first historical kdrama, but they keep trying to push other non-English language dramas on me in languages I've never watched! I found the show to be watchable but was bored by the end - but since I disliked it in the same way I disliked Hometown Chachacha, I was really surprised that I haven't heard more about it.

Hannah

Watched the first episode of Prison Playbook a month ago and knew I didn't have the emotional bandwidth for that pd/writer team. Now that it's a new year, will try to see if I can get through episode two without fearing imminent heartbreak.

Hannah

So hopefully my next KDrama is going to fulfill the need i have for a romance that will make me cry - any recs please send them my way, but I am thinking of starting The Smile has Left Your Eyes and hoping Seo In Guk is gonna save me

Sarah @afternoonaasks

I am on the last episode of The Red Sleeve. My review on this will basically be a rant, I seem to be the only one but I am SO ANNOYED WITH THIS DRAMA. I came for a historical romance and have been sold something which isn't a romance, in my book. It doubly annoys me cos it's had all the publicity that The King's Affection should have - cos TKA is head and shoulders above The Red Sleeve - it's a romance for starters!!

Sarah @afternoonaasks

The first half of Nevertheless was steamy.

Alison D.

Second Twenties with Choi Ji-Woo - the actress who is being crushed on by the Kdrama fan in CLOY. Also While you were Sleeping

Elizabeth-Claire

Does anyone have any recommendations for some steamy romantic dramas?
