Background Paintings and Stuff
Added 2015-05-24 21:51:23 +0000 UTCIf you haven't noticed yet I've been having a pretty difficult time finding skilled artists to help out with the game (mostly because both the adult content and specific stylized look limit the candidates pool pretty severely). I figured however that I should be able to find a background painter... someone able to do some anime-esque cityscapes and what not... but nope! So, since it's something I've been wanting to learn to do anyways, I went ahead and tried my hand at a matte painting in a similar technique I've been successful with for the battle backgrounds (combining stylized 3D renders with digital painting). The trick to these kinds of backgrounds is incorporating photograph elements as well and blending it all. This test wasn't necessarily going to be used as an environment for the game (though, looking at it now, it possibly could be), but was meant more for practice. I figured I'd share it with you guys though since I'm pretty happy with how it came out, and think that I now have the confidence to try some similar stuff for the game. I could see all 3 being used for a desert location with 2/3 being morning and evening shots and 1 being mid day

2015-05-25 20:49:43 +0000 UTCYou could use all 3 versions to simulate either different weather patterns or even different times of the day. Also the landscape mixed with the futuristic city makes it look like Mars. Which is actually kinda cool. I think these pictures could be used for background imagery during 'cutscenes on approach to a location' sort of things. You could try to search up inspiration from planetary images and or artistic renditions of alternate planets for elements. However, the downside to doing that is copyright issues. You would have to get permission to use other peoples works and you have to put the reference to their works in the credits. Its not so bad with non-artistic digital imagery because in those cases you don't have people jumping up and down for violating the copyrights if you were to use them.
