Foxy flashed forward, moving faster than a blink. Two demons lunged at her—she flipped between them, claws slashing their necks with a satisfying shnk. They collapsed in ash.
Red charged next, jaws crackling with infernal flame. He slammed into a hulking brute twice his size, biting down with a roar that tore its shoulder clean off.
Shadow blurred between targets, claws dragging through skulls like ink across paper.
Buni's dark power coiled from beneath him, snatching airborne demons mid-flight and dragging them down screaming. Above, Rave let out a piercing cry, flapping his jagged wings—releasing bursts of shadowflame that scorched anything unfortunate enough to fly into his storm.
Puriel descended like a war goddess.
Her armor gleamed as she brought her blade down through five demons at once. “Back to the pit,” she said, her voice echoing with layered holy tone. Light surged outward from her feet, burning lesser fiends on contact.
I joined in.
“Demonic Spike,” I shouted, summoning lances of pure demonic power.
I hurled one at the demons near the edge of the rift—direct hit, turned it into molten chunks.
The second I threw into the air—where it exploded like a firework, raining across a dozen enemies.
The damage notifications poured into my vision. But I ignored them.
“Demonic Claw!”
[Demonic Claw has been activated.]
I appeared midair, slashing through three flying demons in one strike.
The sky above still pulsed. The crack was growing. But the initial wave? We were clearing it.
Fast.
“Any sign of the other demon lord?” I asked, landing beside Puriel.
“Not yet,” she said, eyes locked on the sky. “But this is just the opening act.”
And yeah, I believed her.
Because the real threat hadn’t arrived. Yet.
Demons were still raining from the widening crack in the sky, like a broken faucet from Hell someone forgot to turn off. The air was thick with ash and screams, the ground soaked in blood, sulfur, and singed asphalt. The street glowed red under the corrupted rift, and the air tasted like ozone and death.
I was just about to launch another volley of [Demonic Spikes] when it happened— A pulse hit my head. Telepathy.
‘Your Highness, we are on our way.’ Maria’s voice clipped like a knight in ceremony.
Then Ivy’s voice crackled into my thoughts like a war comm line. ‘Me too. The meeting is annoying! It’s hard for me to get away from it!’
“Should’ve skipped the meeting,” I muttered to myself, ducking under a fireball and countering with Dark Bound. Black demonic power exploded from the ground, snatching two demons midair and slamming them into the pavement hard enough to make the concrete scream.
‘I’m also on my way!’ Ruby cut in, her voice louder and a little more excited than necessary. That girl lived for battlefield chaos.
‘Demon hunters will arrive soon,’ came Emma’s warning. ‘Be careful, Ethan. The Association will throw everything they have at this one. They’ve been waiting.’
Great. Of course they have.
Then Mrs. Clea’s voice hit, steady, clipped, and laced with something heavier than usual.
‘They’ve also prepared their secret weapon again. This time… worse than the last ‘Heaven Judgement’.’
I cursed under my breath.
‘Great,’ I replied. ‘They really have a hobby of bothering me, huh? Despite… I’ve already managed to sway some senators to my side.’
There was a pause, then Clea responded, her tone acknowledging but still sharp.
‘Yes, some have refused. Especially since this attack was an ambush in a crowded place. I expected they’d lean your way. But more than 70% voted in favor of releasing the weapon anyway. So... the plan will go forward.’
I sighed, grinding my teeth as I slashed through another demon with Demonic Claw, black flame tracing across its chest before it burst into dust.
‘Great,’ I said again, bitter this time. ‘Let’s see how powerful their new toy really is.’
I cut the telepathy feed and turned to the others still locked in formation around me.
“You guys can handle the rest of this wave, right?”
They all looked up. Red was tearing apart a winged demon with his fangs. Buni was floating overhead, unleashing the battlefield with a wide-range slash. Foxy was dancing between enemy lines like a glowing blur of golden and dark power. Puriel landed beside me, wings stretched, blade still wet with demon blood.
“We’ve got this,” she said. “What’s your plan?”
I looked toward the crack.
It was growing.
Spreading.
Spitting more and more twisted fiends.
“I’m going to close that thing.”
She blinked. “W-What do you mean?”
“I’m going up,” I said, and without another word, I launched myself into the air. “Just cover me,” I shouted down, “don’t let anyone get close to me or interrupt me!”
I extended both hands toward the sky and was about to use my Dark Energy skill.
Then—something hit.
Fast.
I barely had time to blink before a blur sliced toward me from the left— I cancelled my skill and snapped up Shadow Barrier.
-CLANG!
The blow echoed like a hammer hitting a church bell. I spun midair, throwing up a second Demonic Spike volley to push my attacker back.
And there he was.
Zatan.
He hovered across from me, arms crossed, his smirk sharp enough to cut steel.
His eyes locked on mine.
“Hello, Your Highness,” he said with mock cheer. “Long time no see.”
My lip curled. “Hello again, Zatan.”
“Still alive, huh?” I asked, watching his aura blaze like a forest fire wrapped in blades.
“Oh, more than alive. Upgraded,” he said. “And I hear you’ve gotten cozy here. Even have levelled up. And I could see you are really half angel.”
“What do you want?”
He tilted his head. “Same thing as always. To kill you, of course. And to crack this world open.”
“So cliché.”
He laughed. “Oh, come now. At least let me enjoy it. You really should’ve stayed in your realm. This playground belongs to us now.”
He moved first.
‘Wrath Kill!’
I activated instantly, my claw glowing bright and stretching with dark fire as he came in close, slamming a fist toward my ribs.
Our attacks clashed, fire exploding in every direction.
Below us, the others fought harder—Puriel glanced up once but held formation.
“You want this world?” I snarled. “Then you’ll have to go through me.”
His smirk twisted. “That was always the plan.”
And the sky cracked wider.
